Watching it bloom

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

We had our first freeze last night. I got most of the plants inside just in time. This was my reward for all the hard work. About 20 flowers opened tonight. These photos of 3 flowers were made over a 2 hour period.

Oh, You should smell them! All of my brugs are in the basement too, many of them are blooming. Tomorrow I'll post pictures of the morning after. Not a pretty sight. LOL

What is it's name? It's beautiful!

This is an old hand me down plant from my Grandmother, and probably from her mother before that. She called it Night blooming cereus or Queen of the Night.

I have been told it is Epiphyllum oxypetalum

Hi Betty, WoW!! That is some plant and beautiful pics, just breath taking. I would have loved to have been in your basement when it bloomed! LOL I know when it's baby bloomed for me with 3 opened at once, it was heavenly.
Boy, 20 blooms opening would be something to see! It is worth all the hard work hauling the plants in when you are rewarded with such wonderful blooms.---Karen

Thank You Karen! Next year yours should have a lot more blooms. This is the one that was by the front sidewalk that I had hoped would bloom while you were here. It is finished for the year, but the Brugs are still setting buds in the basement.

Betty,
just gorgeous!!

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Thank You. Wish I could have had all the flowers in the picture. There just wasn't room in the basement to get back far enough to see it all. LOL
It was so pretty.

I can visualize it well.
Many times backing up sufficiently is not the only problem, on a large plant many flowers face into one another.
When I brought my plant inside a few weeks ago, it was also budding again. Unfortunately I placed the (very large) plant the wrong way ( I had to), so when it flowered all the flowers faced away from us. But the lovely scent inside made up for it.

When I brought it inside I turned it so that some of the blooms would face out. So many blooms were on the back where I could only enjoy the scent.
When they started to open there were two blooms hanging together. A piece of tape and I had a nice cluster of three for the picture. LOL This plant is about 9 foot tall and only 7 foot ceilings in the basement. I have to do a lot of tucking in. LOL

9 feet tall? Wowser!!!!! I'm so envious of you both! I wish I could smell the blooms..:(

Hi picabo, that is a beautiful bunch of pictures of your NBO! I almost lost mine like that, last winter, so I have to wait forever for them to bloom again! Those little pups, that I have posted, will, for sure, take forever! Sylvia
