I received my Optimara tennessee and Louisiana leaves today. I planted them in 3oz solo cups using perlite and a tad of seedling light soil. I also wicked them. thanks to everyone for all the wonderful information you gave me! I think these will come out just fine! I used a cake thingie (see pic)and poked holes in the top for ventilation I have them on a plant shelf below the shelf that has a grow light, so the leaves are about 2/12+ feet below the light. I would love any comments! Thanks again everone for your great information!

My Leaves!
Looks perfect! Love the blue strep. Variety? Also, is that episcia 'Suomi'?
Thanks snowrose! The blue strep is a bluebeard and yep thats a suomi episcia! your good! LOL
The stand looks wonderful. Any plant would love to live there. I also love the strep. I am a pushover for blue flowers.
Wonderful ! It is good for leaves to be about 2-6 inches away from the light though. I grow mine almost touching. I see their getting window light too, Keep them warm . Some people use heat mats. Does it get cold there in winter ? If so move from window as window are can be ten degrees colder. They may not die but will grow slower.
Good Luck hope you have many babies !
I wouldn't say it gets cold in the house Voilet_Treasure...being originally from Florida my cold tolerance isnt very high!! I have a heat vent close to the stand(my vents are on the floor) so I would think it helps. My house adverages between 72-75 in the winter...thats because hubby and I play thermostat tag... I tend to be more aggressive than him....he being from New Jersey his cold tolerace is alot higher than mine! But as it gets colder I would say it will be cooler right close to the window. I should get another light like the one on the stand, it was a good price of under $10.00...sheesh I knew I should have bought 2...or 4 more LOL. I also have heavy wide wood blinds on that window so I can put the blinds down to help. I will keep my babies warm.....ill look into a heat mat. I will put the baby leaves on the shelf nearer the light so that will make em happier. Thanks violet for your comments they are much appreciated!
Thanks VG, I just wondered. The Wrangler series is neat.
Sounds great perfect heat. The past couple winters here have been on the cool side ! Love it :)) We ran my lights at night which helped keep the leaves, babies, plants warm !
Ran them at night during the hot summer too to help the A/C not to have to work so hard .
No more lights or stands now. Just a few plants and back to good ole natural sunshine. Lights do help grow babies and plants better and more flowers. It will be fun to watch your babies grow !
Perfect set up! Your Wrangler's Pink Patches is beautiful! Lovely variegation!
Good luck with your leaves. Your plants are beautiful and look so healthy. How long have you been growing a/v's?
Thanks
Maureen
Thank You Maureen...I need all the luck I can get with the leaves.
I just started growing them recently again. I have been on the road as a full time RV'er for the last 3 years. So I havent had any for that period of time. I grew violets before we had the RV.... I love em! Before I never got into the names of certain violets, propagating them or collecting them. I just would buy a pretty noid if I saw one at the store. Now I'm hooked big time! I am trying to collect the rare and vintage ones now and the Optimara state named violets. Its like i'm making up for the 3 years I didnt have any! LOL And I have learned SOOOOO much here!

When you're hooked, you're hooked. I also had my eye on the Wrangler. I have two babies right now Wrangler's Jealous Heart and Wrangler's Shadow Rider. They are both very small but hanging in there.
Love the set up. Good luck on your collection on the vintage plants.
What a wonderful setup you have violet_grower.Love your stand and your plants look really wonderful : ) Nancy
