Other Cleomes I am looking for

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I came across some more Cleomes I don't have.

Cleome gynandra L.
Cleome sparsifolia
Cleome isomeris
Cleome hirta (Klotzsch) Oliv.

This is where I saw these
http://plants.usda.gov/java/imageGallery?category=sciname&txtparm=Cleome&familycategory=all&growthhabit=all&duration=all&origin=all&wetland=all&imagetype=all&artist=all©right=all&location=all&stateSelect=all&cite=all&viewsort=25&sort=sciname

Anyone have seeds for these?

I want the yellow, too, but it seems no one is offering them.

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

The one above is different than the Cleome lutea.
I have seeds coming for Cleome lutea, but there like 5 yrs old,
I am hoping they will germinate for me...

i wrote colorada, new mexico and some other native plant societies for cleome lutea. no luck. but did find the lutea from a lady in utah. it grows wild there and is considered a weed. so she snickered at me for wanting them. lol.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Hey Mamajack,

Mine came from Utah! *lol*
Wouldn't it be funny if it was the same woman?
Mine arrived yesterday and I planted 10 seeds right away.
I have them on a heating pad in my room *lol*

Kim

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I sure will Kim, and Thanks bunches :o)
Why a heating pad? Wouldn't they need a cold stratification (spell?) like the cleomes, being their in the cleom family? Just wondering...

mamajack the only reason she probably considers them as weeds is because they do grow wild lol. I seen a really pretty pinkish/purple flower growing (weed ;-) all over they place in Washington (there was a small one growing next to my sons apart. and one by the navy lodge where we stayed) and a few of the other States we went thru all along the highway and at one of the rest areas we stopped at, they looked just like a cleome except inside the pods was a cottony type full with teeny tiny seeds. And it was hard to get them off my hands after I opened the pod up... I got a few here I am going to try and plant out in the spring.. But not once did I see the yellow cleome :o( alot of sunflowers lol

Hey everyone, keep me in mind for next year if you have luck with those yellow cleome. If you get seeds, I would love to try some.

Wow!! THANKS! I will do that. I am a bit behind on my trades but I will .

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i bet it is the same lady cause she was laughing when she wrote me back saying it was the second request she had in about as many weeks and just couldn't believe she had this unexpected commodity. i asked for a bunch of seeds as i am sending her a plant and so if she does send a bunch i will offer some up on daves. but there is one lady on daves who for sure is going to get some...............it is the lady who started this whole yellow cleome business on daves in the first place. i never would have seen a yellow one if it hadn't been for her. so don't tell her. lol. and lea..........you, girl , are going to get some too.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I have already promised out 3 for SASBE for others that were looking for it too.
I LOVE to share when I can as SOOO many people have graciously shared with me when I had nothing.
I had 12 seeds of this last year (check the Annual forum for the post called Cleome) but I think I may have planted them when it was too cold here in Maine.

Connie, I have enough seeds that I'm going to try them every way I can think of *lol*. Heating pad, Stratification for 6 weeks, starting indoors with no heat and then direct sowing in May or June.....hopefully I will get AT LEAST 1 flower out of one of these ways *lol*

Good luck everyone and please, if you do get flowers....post the pictures and share with everyone OK?

moretz....so sorry to say but there is not one source out there that offers these seeds.
The seeds I received were from another trader who had them. They are a wildflower where she lives but EXTREMELY hard to find.

IF I can grow them, I will have tons of seed to share hopefully :)
