Hello All, I had to share my new way to root in water. My cuttings kept falling over, hanging down and getting knocked over by the cat. So I came up with this: Canning jars with skewers masking taped on! I use the dollar store hair clips (since I'm out of dragonflys for now) and write on the tape with a sharpie marker. I put the name of the hoya, the date and who or where I got the cutting from. It's also easy to tent with a plastic bag. Cheap and easy! God bless, -joanne
Red Neck Rooters :)
Hey good thinking there. Yes girl you are in need of some dragonfly's, but I must admit I have some of those hair clips too. I find it's real easy to just get your little stem over to the side and clip the stem right to the jar. If you place it just right it does not hurt the stem. But oh with the skewers that does make a nice little tent stake... Good Idea, and thanks for sharing the idea. Note to self -buy skewers...
Only problem I see Joanne is that no self respecting Southern Redneck would make rooters without duct tape!
Seriously, your idea is great and your cuttings look awesome.
Mel
oh hail the mighty powers of duck tape!!!
Mel,a lot of peole out there just dont know if it cant be fixed with duct tape,it just cant be fixed!!!(LOL)
Joanne your cuttings and your new rooting method look great. In jar #2,second from the left what is the hoya that has the speckled leaves?

I have to correct Mel, she was only part right. A true southern redneck would use duct tape on a COORS CAN to root their cuttings. (I'm southern, I can say it.)
do true rednecks grow hoyas?
I thought redneck-ism was a complete lack of sophistication regardless of geographical location?
You know I think you can do just about anything with duct tape but eat it!!
Oh you cant use it to seal packages for mailing either. I didnt know that until just recently. I needed to mail a package and the only tape i had in the house was what else but duct tape!!! Before I began sealing up the box with it I thought to myself maybe i should call the PO just to make sure that there arent any restrictions against using it for that purpose. Turns out that it's not allowed to be used for package sealing.

My DH has a shirt that reads: when the going gets tough, the tough use duct tape! I did think of using it but figured the masking tape was classier! and did you notice the purple sharpie? Nice touch I thought.
dmichael that is H. memoria. Just got it as a gift from a friend :~) along with many others.
And markroy, coors in a can; EEEEUUWWWWW!
If you all could see my front yard you would know that I come by my redneck status honestly! -joanne
Mel that is just too funny, I was gonna post that Mel would tell you to use duct tape. Too Funny
I say EEEEUUWWWWW!!! To any flavor of beer in a can. Long neck ICE COLD bottles are the only true american way to drink beer and I live in S.C. and we are home to about 99.9% of the worlds population of can beer drinking rednecks and no i'm not one of them.
Give me an iced down 12 pack of ice house (5.5% by volume)and we are friends!! Or when i'm having a nonalcohol drinking outing I prefer o'douls non acoholic(.5% by volume). Hows that for going from one extreme to the next!!! Or you could just give me some Jose Cuervo gold and we will really be good friends!!
My favorite shirt shows a mouth with Duct Tape over it and it says: SILENCE IS GOLDEN BUT DUCT TAPE LASTS FOREVER.
I was racing on a boat when someone got hit in the head with the boom. A jerk crew member taped the guys head up with Duct Tape. I wonder if they ever got it out of his hair?
AHH, the many wonderful uses of duct tape. Now I have heard of super glue being used to close a wound, but not duct tape! LOL I wonder if they had to give the guy a hair cut to get it out.
DMichael you made a mistake by calling the Post Office. If you asked, of course they would tell you not to use duct tape. You should have just assumed it was fine to use for mailing things out with. I have used it to mail out boxes when I have been out of tape. It works fine!! LOL
sometimes it is easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission
The problem the Post Office has with Duct Tape is that is holds the box together too well.....and that 10,000 lb. gorilla in the back room can't destroy it!!!
Joanne-Brilliant idea. Too cool. My daughters would probably get mad that I used their clips though. I've caught them using the dragonflies in their hair. :) They DO look like hairclips.
Plantmom, My girls have done the same thing! Those clips are from the dollar store so we share :~) -joanne
