Call me crazy! I was at Behnki's today and I found a white minature rose plant. Looking at the care, other than needing lots of light and bonemeal once a year, pretty much like violets. Anyone ever had success with them?

Sounds gorgeous! Sorry I don't know a thing about keeping them... but hey, do you think we could have our local gathering over at Behnke's? LOL
Don't know. Sometimes the selection is OK other times there isn't much -- as far as gessies are concerned -- but there is always something there. We could certainly call ahead and see what they have. The one in Beltsville is about 8 miles from me. Located on Route 1. I know there is one in Potomac that Ki has mentioned.
I think they are happier with cooler nights, which rules them out for me (apartment stays very warm). Also, spidermite magnet so mist frequently! My two cents..... They are gorgeous though.
Thanks Ki, How does misting help prevent spidermites?
supposedly, spidermites spread faster when the air is dry. I'm not sure that it makes all that much difference as greenhouses have spidemite problems too - now a shower would dislodge them and keep the numbers down, but a misting wouldn't actually remove them....
I find that misting with water with added OrangePlus cleaning solution helps. Then again, soap solutions are not supposed to work on mites, so add a few generous pinches of salt :P Horticultural oils are supposed to be more effective.
I guess I would just keep it away from other plants just in case. It might be that in your conditions/with your plant, you won't have this problem.
I have grown mini roses and as long as you provide a sunny window, should do fine. Put container grown plants outdoors for a summer vacation. Also, most are winter hardy but would wait till spring after it warms up past frost to plant in the ground. That way, the plant would acclimate better and be well adjusted before winter. Mini roses will grow larger when planted in the ground but will not grow nearly as large as standard types.

We had a few of them in our garden beds when we lived down the corner and a couple antique trailing ones. Our's were planted right in the grown and did great ! And yes they bloomed all year but more around Nov, Chritstmas ! and cooler months. But those months still were sometimes in the 80's !
I guess we were lucky !
HI Nanna, they need full sun and will do best outdoors -- not indoors, and they are definitely spidermite magnets!! Good luck with it,
Maureen
Thanks everyone. I loved the care page, Snowrose. Now I need the right place for it.
Yes Maureen your right they do better outside .
