Rosamond

I know y'all have probably seen her a gazillion times, but she's new to me and I love her form. When I got home tonight, I went right out to see how she faired with the winds today and Oh My Gosh!!! She opened up four new blooms and all of them deepened in color to this... is this not the most gorgeous, beautiful, incredible flower you've ever seen? I am totally enthralled!! ~sigh~

She is very pretty, but you forgot something. Does she smell out of this world? :)

I have it also, just beginning to open, have 8 blooms. Yes, she smells good and is a beauty!
I am bringing them all inside the garage, freeze warnings Thursday night, 29 degrees. grrrrr.......

Felicia, there's a definite perfume in the air, but unfortunately I can't tell if it is from her or any/all of the hundred other open blooms around her. I stuck my schnoz up inside each of the blooms but couldn't smell anything. I've had allergies all my life and think my "smeller" is defective now. :(

Just beautiful.

Oh, Barb, I'm so sorry!!! But, at least you have some gorgeous blooms!!
The lack of scent thing was like me trying to smell my EDW last night, only to find a skunk had graced the area.
Now, Whiskers overwhelms the garage. No, I'm not complaining.
Ok, we just need to move south so we don't have to worry about overwintering, and they can grow to be a gazillion feet tall and wide!!

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Thanks! I wish I could remember who gave her to me. That info was lost when my computer burped and I'd really like to again thank whomever it was. You folks are so generous and kind to share cuttings and information. Hopefully as I learn I'll be able to repay some of you.. and maybe even pay it forward a little bit.

LOL Felicia! Eau d' Skunk is not one of my favored fragrances. My opinion would be more like Eeeewwwww d' skunk! I have a Whiskers but it didn't bloom.. only a foot and a half tall and the pot it was in kept falling over no matter where I put it. I'll enjoy it next year, I hope.
Move south? I'm working on it. Still can't believe I lived in South Florida for more than 50 years and never gardened.

Beautiful! Do you grow them from seed or from cuttings? I have seen some, though not that deep color here and was curious as to whether they get that large in one season, and bloom. As well as whether they are grown from seed or cuttings? Thanks for the info and the Beautiful!!!! Picture.

Barb,

Yes she is the most gorgeous, beautiful, incredible flower I'vs ever seen. And I am so jealous that you have a hundred other blooms around her.

My mothers smeller is not smelling, hasn't been smellin for a long time. She says she misses smelling the roses. But the sight of the blooms are a wonderful treat for the senses.

Congratulations,

Marie

Janet, all the ones I have were grown from cuttings with the exception of two seedlings that I started in February. One seedling is still very small because it suffered from broad mite infestation nearly all summer and the other is maybe 5 or 6 feet tall but hasn't bloomed yet. They are Vixen X EP and Pink Beauty X EP crosses. If you will go to my Brugs a'Bloomin thread, you will see a picture of them in front of the house. I have to grow in containers, so their growth is proportional to the size of the pot they are in.
Let me know if you would like some cuttings for postage. The only ones not large enough to cut are Ambrosia and the unknown peach. Rosamond is growing as a standard and I am going to try to bare-root bubble her intact.
Thanks for the nice words, guys. Sometimes I get kinda silly about my plants, but hey.. they keep me off the streets and outta trouble.. right? ;)

Barb when you say" bare root bubble her", do you mean wash off the roots and bubble the whole plant, roots and all? Have you done this before?

Hi Bonnie,
Yes, I am going to try - for the first time - keeping the intact brugs in water for the winter. What I did last year was to put cuttings in the bubbler setup and when they had produced approx. inch-long roots, either pot them up in soil or keep them in orchid moss until time to put them into pots and harden off for living outside.
This winter I am going to try to keep them in the bubbler setup but keep the larger ones - KBS, CG, DrS, Rosamond and Insig Pink intact. I will wash the roots clean of soil, trim off any fine roots, remove the foliage and put them in water with SuperThrive and H2O2 added. I have aquarium pumps, tubing and tees to attach to the air stones. Judy posted a link to another person's setup and it is a very good one. Hopefully I will have blooms earlier next year. You never know how things will turn out.. I may be the one with my hand out asking for cuttings if this doesn't work!! No matter what, it will be a learning experience.

Barb,

Huntsville is about 4 hrs away from us (several DGers) and RootDoctor lives in Huntsville.

Maybe this winter when we are all wanting an outing, we'll all meet half way!!

Judy

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

THE RootDoctor lives here? Well I'll be! That would be too cool! I only know of one other DGer who lives here - ChiliHead. I think someone on Dave's lives in Union Grove, south of the river, but can't remember who it is. I'd love to meet you guys. GordonHawk comes down several times a year to visit his Mom, too. I got to meet him, as Betty did, when he came down last time. If you guys get cabin fever and want to get together, give me a shout and maybe we can all make a day trip to say "hey" and compare notes on our winter projects.

That should be some project getting the whole brug in a bubbler. Good luck.

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Jim, I got a few of those big blue tubs that Judy and Dan have in their pictures. I figured if I trimmed all the foliage off and then rinsed the root area, I would be able to wrestle the "mainframe" of the plant into the tub, then drag it into the plant room and put the water in it. How does my plan sound so far? Sound feasible?

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Sounds like it would work to me.

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

I'm anxious to see how this works for you.
I'm zone 5 and it seems that the last 2 months is where I lose plants, potted and bubbled!.Hopefully you will have more luck.
We've just got our worst cold spell and I have left lots of roots in the ground. I wish I had more room to try this experiment. How many rootballs can you get in a tub? What size is the container?
Thanks for the answers!!!
Bonnie
