Yellow Squash

Frisco, TX(Zone 7b)

Hello,

On Aug 25th, I planted (among 8 crops) yellow squash. Now, the packet said that gestationally, they would be ready for harvest about mid Nov, but I am out there today, and there are eight to ten already at five to six inches in length.

(The zuchini have flowered, but that's about it)

The question is: are these moving along faster than normal? Should I be closing in on an Oct 31st (or therabout) date, or does anyone suggest another harvesting "formula"?

Thanks
W Jones

Are they winter squash? If so you should wait to harvest untill they are totally mature. The flesh will be tastier and sweeter then.
If they are summer squash, you can harvest at any point you like, those are better when they are tender.

If they are summer then they are ready, here in TX I have found they love to grow and bloom with few issues. A great plant for our area.

Winter or Summer?

To be honest, I cannot remember which seed I put in the ground? Memory goes with each successive birthday - oh, and this is my first squash crop, so I don't know which it is going to become. Here is a snapshot. Any help?

All your squash is ready - even the little ones - the younger the better.
