So my dwarf Singapore pink plumie cutting sits on the heat mat 24/7, gets 12 to 14 hrs of hi-intensity fluorescent light (checked with light meter), keeping moist with soda bottle humidity dome. Today just to see if anything is happening, I tried to lift the cutting and I feel resistance. Dare I hope I have roots yet?
Dwarf plumie question- roots yet?
How long has it been rooting? Absolutely no tugging, lifting, or pulling! Plumie roots are fragile and can break easily! LOL! When you see leaves coming in, then you can be fairly confident that you have roots forming.
About 6 weeks of rooting. OK, no more checking. The stem was and is green, is that good?
Here's a Dwarf Singapore Pink that I rooted this summer. I can't remember now, but I would guess that it took 12 weeks to root in the heat of summer. Don't be surprised if yours takes a wee bit longer, given this time of year. Green is good; firm means it is not rotting, and that is a good sign. Some say that greenwood cuttings are harder to root than hardwood cuttings, but I find that they root faster than hardwood, but I also think they are more prone to rotting. Most dwarves don't have really green wood anyway, I don't think. I think the greenwood turns to hardwood fairly quickly if I'm not mistaken. Which dwarf are you rooting, and can you post a pic?
Hi Hetty and Clare, Patience is not one of my virtues, 'tis true (LOL!). I'll look forward to a nice Chanukah present. Watched pot syndrome, that's what I have. Plus my (your? Hetty, I took cuttings!) tis rooted soooo fast, I thought maybe the luck could spread to the plumie! The bronze one looks awesome.
Hetty, isn't the plumie you gave me called dwarf Singapore pink, or does it have another name?
Nice fat cutting for a DPS clare you luck out on that one..
:)
Hetty, If you get any uncommon ones, let me know, I'll be happy to trade for cultivars I don't have. Especially dwarf varieties.
Thanks, Robert. It actually broke off my own plant and is about the same size as the other branches. I think it just looks thicker in the picture.
