Best wishes Kim , have a lovely Day. Roy
I just posted this on the C&S forum as that is where I first went this morning and come to find out....Chantell my sweet friend has posted this EVERYWHERE I go...think she knows me *lol*
Thank you all so much and here is the post that I returned on the C&S forum:
Good Morning Ladies,
You have just made my day Chantell.....I love you my friend!
I got up this morning and said, I wonder if there is a post on the C&S forum with my name on it this morning and Poof there it was. I can't tell you how much this has touched me this morning....I really needed this...Thank You~!
37 is a hard one to swallow this morning and my son turns 17 today also so I think that makes it even harder *lol*.
We have recently started a new family hobby at the house which is tropical fish. So far we have 11 of them and today I'm going with my daughter to see if there are any "birthday fish" with my name on it.
With doing the tropical fish, I have learned that we have very acidic water which got me thinking that I have been watering my plants with very acidic water so I need to address this I think. I think adding lime to the water when I water them might help them alot. For the most part they are healthy but I don't see that they grow as fast as other peoples seem to grow. They just seem to sit there and occasionally put out a new leaf. My hoya bella I think feels the acid more than any of the others as she just doesn't seem happy no matter what I do. I have come to the conclusion that there are just some plants that some people can't keep *lol*
On the other hand, my Christmas Cactus is full of buds and starting to open and it's not even the end of October. I don't know if this is because it was outside with us while the new house was being brought in and this was the first year I had allowed it to go outside...not sure but she sure is ahead of schedule.
Recent acqusitions include Firefern Oxalis (which I am enjoying immensely...the red ferny leaves with yellow flowers is so beautiful right now), Adenium (from E-Bay...hasn't arrived yet), Goldfish Plant (again E-Bay...hasn't arrived yet). Once my Adenium arrives, I will post a picture of it in the BEAUTIFUL planter I won on E-Bay for $3.13. I absolutely LOVE it!
Been sick for 6 weeks with a bacterial infection from the Nursing Home I started working at. This and many other things has brought me to the conclusion that this is not my kind of work so once again I'm in between jobs (the story of my life *lol*) and loving being home.
The new house is starting to feel like home now. I have invited about 20 people to Thanksgiving this year hoping that doing a big get together will warm the house up a little more. It's going to be alot of work but I think it will be fun. Hope I can fit everyone in *lol*
Anyways...that's what's been up with me and it truly brightened my day to see you thinking of me Chantell as I think of you often my friend.
Kim
Happy Birthday, Kim!
Oh and BTW...thirty-SEVEN is most definately nothing to hide your head about...try 42!! LOL
Happy Birthday Kim. Sounds like you have a full and happy life. Enjoy doing your fav things, and may all your wishes come true.
Marcy
Thank you all again....Just been "puttering around" this morning. Playing plants....my most FAVORITE thing to do. I am quite tickled as out of 4 cuttings from my Hibiscus 1 of them had roots! The other 3 didn't fare very well and are now compost material but one of them had some nice roots which made my day as I can't root ANYTHING! Prepared a gallon milk jug with bat guano and lime pellets to sit and stew for plant tea. Hoping this will help some of my babies.
Drilled a hole in my new plant pot/pedestal that I purchased on E-Bay (I can't wait for you all to see it). Hoping my Adenium will come in today. Purchased it from the Plant Ranch on E-Bay and plan to leave honest feedback here regarding it when it comes in. I am putting the Adenium in my new pot and will post a picture when I have it all together.
My dear son cleaned out his car today and needless to say left me with 4 loads of laundry. I told him that was his birthday gift from me *lol*. It's fun having sharing a birthday with your son. This is the first year he has offered to do anything for MY birthday and invited me out to dinner. I think he's really maturing now and thinking of others....boy the phases teenagers go through. I told him 1 more year (when he turns 18) he will be a "guest" here and better start appreciating things a little more than he does *lol* What a mean mom huh?
Here is a picture of my handsome lad....I love him so much.....such a gift from God. I love BOTH my children with all my heart but when you have one on your birthday....it's kind of like we read eachothers minds before we even say a word. When he was born I was a single mom for 2 1/2 years so we are extremely close. Each one of them means something different to me. My daughter is the twinkle in my eye as she is just so happy go lucky and loves to "cuddle" and be rubbed. She's always happy...just like her dad.
Anyways.....I'll write more soon so that you don't all fall asleep at once *lol*
Kim
Ahh...playing with plants...there you go!! Will be interested in what you have to say about Plant Ranch...I've not ordered from them but have looked at their plants many times. They just seem to be on the small side for the price. Some nurseries get so large - their selection is great but you end up with smaller plants for the money. I'll wait to hear your opinion once your plant arrives, though. Oh btw, your son's a cutie!! Good for him to take care of YOU on your birthdays!!
Chantell,
Here is a picture of our new hobby.....it still has some work to be done. I ordered 3 glow in the dark plants (E-Bay once again *lol*) that should arrive sometime this week.
Isn't it pretty though? I can't believe how fast I'm starting to love this "fish thing". I didn't think I would get into it as much as I have but they really do have personalities *lol*
The big black one is a shark/catfish kind of fish and hubby named him Zeus. He's so ugly he's cute *lol*
Kim
Ahhh, you're doing a great job!! Is that loach real on the treasure chest? And you have Gouramis (sp?) too!! Find yourself some 'powder blue' and 'sunset' of those...they are beautiful and very tolerant!
Here is a better picture of Zeus.
The loach on the chest isn't real but we have something similar. I'll post his picture after Zeus.
Inside the chest is a prism which plugs in and at night it lights up with all kinds of different colored lights. It's so pretty.
I'm worried about Zeus though...he doesn't eat (since Sunday). I have to ask the pet store what to do about that. I don't think I have the right food for him. I have tried flakes and also Betta Bloodworms.
Kim
Dont' worry if they go a couple of days, Kim, without eating...I need to look at my book marks re Zeus though...I don't remember that type having protruding eyes..brb
Ok here's a page about "Zeus" http://www.aquariacentral.com/species/db.cgi?db=fresh&uid=default&ID=0207&view_records=1 better known as an Iridescent Shark which is really a type of catfish LOL. Although their eyes protrude somewhat - yours appears to have a condition referred to as "pop-eye" - scroll down this page http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_disease2.php to read up on it...or google it. I'd contact the pet store you got him from about this condition if I'm correct.
Meant to add this earlier: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/Shop.cfm?N=2004 This is a great site for info, products, and fish.

Happy Birthday Kim, hope you have a wonderful day.
Happy Birthday Kim! Sounds like you are having a wonderful day!
Mel
The final icing on the cake:
Today after going to the fish store and purchasing 6 more fish and some $10.00 pop-eye treatment for my beloved Zeus above...I got home to see a BEAUTIFUL Orchid (OK....so it wasn't a hoya *lol*) on the table. I said "hubby, you bought me an orchid?".....he says... "no, your daughter in law did". I nearly died. This is my 17 year old sons girlfriend who barely knows me. I was SO touched to think that she could be so thoughtful! I think she would like me to be her mother in law someday *lol*.
Hubby took me to Bonanza and now I get to play around in Dave's for a bit....could the day be more perfect than that?
I just wanted to thank you all again for thinking of me, it really made my day.
Here is a shot of my new orchid.

Kim,
I'm beyond pleased you had such a nice day!!! Your orchid is beautiful...how special you must feel!!
I hope you put a call into the pet store...you shouldn't have to be paying for that treatment....they should've replaced him for you. :(
Chantell,
The store we bought him from doesn't take their fish back unless they are dead. He was the only one they had and hubby is very attached to him so I didn't mind buying the medicine. It will help the whole tank out anyway. As of today we have 17 fish in there. You should see the pretty ones I picked up today! One looks like a dalmation! I love it.
Quite an expensive hobby but so far I'm really enjoying it.
I LOVED my orchid. I have no idea how to make it happy but it will be yet ANOTHER thing to research and learn about. Today it was pop-eye and fish diseases tomorrow orchids the next day.....who knows! Isn't life grand!
What a wonderful day and you started my day out PERFECTLY my friend!
Kim
You're a sweetie!! Post more pics of your new aqua babies....when you have time!!
