LOL Joyce. Did it fall off? Did you take the calyx off and already toss it? I wish your picture was bigger. Those anthers look HUGE!!
Hopefully you have time for a bud to mature for you so you do not have to wait too long to see what you have. I find this is the best part of growing brugs, waiting to see what you get. So exciting.
LOL Judy... you got it.. I got tired of seeing through the bud in the morning when the sun shines on it, wondering if those lil tendrils are EVER gonna pop out! I figured she could spare just one so I could peek.. it was a single.. Then I spotted this one.
No Kell, I cannot tell a lie, it didn't fall off. LOL I confess. It was one of the ones that was forced to Y cause of the worms sealing up the new growth.. The buds look like I pinched the ends off when I tried to open the damaged leaves.. They are short and squatty.. I thought, "Oh well, it's messed up anyway" So I grabbed one and split it open.. I was running around like a crazy woman.. I couldn't even figure out how to turn on my camera.. LOL
Here is another pic with the calyx torn up... My camera won't do much better.. It's old.
I do hope it will have time to bloom.. the thought of it not happening is driving me crazy.
LOL Joyce, I do not blame you. I have been known to do that too! LOL. Sure looks like 2 skirts, you lucky duck. So who are the parents. We can have a game on guessing the color, that would be great fun!
I found a double one today too on a seedling from 2 years ago. It looked like a single and I moved some things and squeezed back there and turned it up and I was shocked to see a second skirt. I too got all excited. It is in a gallon pot rooted into the ground like cement. So I need to start some cuttings so I can treat it right next year.
LOL Kell, you said it was so fun.. I'm sorry.. this is torture not fun.. I have NO patience I just drive myself crazy! I want to know RIGHT NOW.. LOL Nah.. not really THAT bad.. but close.
Now for the bad news... I lost track of the seedlings LONG ago. it is one of 3 combinations..
EDW x Rosamond
Creamsickle x Dr Suess
HDW x L A'mour
I'll post pics of the plant tomorrow.. so you can see the leaves.. I think they are cute cause they are not totally "saw tooth" edges.. but they do have a couple of lil points..
Oh you poor girl. I get hot to trot too esp if I then have to wait till the next year. I just about explode. LOL.
I sure hope is Cream sickle x Dr. Seuss and you get a yellow double. I think Creamsickle had the best chance of colored doubles for you. Of tons of EDW x, I got mostly double whites and a few singles.
I am sooo jealous of all of your beautiful babies. I am a newbie to gardening and even newer to brugs, which I fell in love with after I joined Dave's at the end of May. The only ones I have are angels trumpets, that I planted as seeds in July. The seedlings are still only about 2" tall. I have bitten my nails down to nothing watching these little babies grow. I am not quite sure what I am doing wrong, but it must be something, since they are growing so slowly. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks :0)
Sheila
1st - how do you force a brug to "Y"
2 nd- for hard ground - use a battery power drill , 2 - 1/4x18" drill bit extensions [ I use 3 because I don't like bending over . ] and a wood bit / drill .
drill holes in ground and dump sawdust crushed rock , old seed starting mix - whatever - and water . It loosens up dirt and gives a place for water and worms to get in .
I'll try to rember to take and post a pic .
Yeah Kell.. that is what I was thinking! I would love for it to be a Creamsickle x Dr Suess baby.. I had my first Dr Suess blooms and the fragrance and color just amazed me. A double yellow? How exciting would that be! I felt like I hit the lotto when I saw those 2 baby skirts..
I'm already thinking it is more fun to grow seedlings.. as long as it's good seed and not open pollinated singles.. LOL and NOT 63 of them... LOL (Painful Newbie lessons)
SheShe... I can tell you the best way to get advice is read, read, read all the old threads you can stand.. just keep reading them and you will be amazed at all you will learn!
It is more fun to grow seedlings, well at least more exciting. You never know what you will get so it adds some drama to my otherwise boring life. I also have so much fun seeing what others get too for you can only grow so many crosses yourself! So many brugs to cross!
I am hoping for you!
Hi Tony... It is not a good thing to force a Y.. it is damage, it is not a Y. It does NOT speed up blooming.. at least not in my experience. I learned that when I leaned the rake against the fence post and watched it slip off and hack Rosamond in half the long way... right down the middle... She made a double Y and it's like I had to wait all over again for those shoots to Y before she made a bud.. Now she is like 7" tall crooked and just now making buds!
Fall Webworms sealed the new growth together on 3 of my seedlings and they had to make a Y to get any leaves to open.. it was not natural, so they didn't make buds.. at least the other 2 didn't.
Good tip on the hard ground thing.. I was using a hammer to pound in an old huge screwdriver I found. Thankz!
tony, you cannot force a brug to Y.
'Y'ing is the result of the brugs growth hormone changes.
Trimming only creates a forked branch which is no different than a side branch as far as performance is concerned.
Thank you , I keep hoping and reading so I can make them Y faster .
Last Feb I got a bunch of cuttings from Kell , the CDW , 2 butterfly's a 3rd one is marked rosamond - but looks like a butterfly that bloomed and another has a bud
The rest are just looking at me and saying - why aren't you happy we have leaves and didn't die .
I went to a round up last Saturday and gave away a bunch and came home with
Maya - rooted
Dr Seuss - rooted
a variegated pink - Axelrose. green/green variegated - rooted , now in 5 gallon pot and a Iochromas [ plum colored ] rooted .
ohhhhhhhhh , nice haul ;-)
One of these days I want to get some lochromas.
You have probably heard the expression " his eyes are bigger than his stomach " - well , my eyes are bigger than my yard .
This is a terrible disease I think I caught from wife . It spreads really easily and there is no know cure .
lol ........... so true.
Enjoy your addiction.
LOL That is great.. I even have the neighbor's yards getting tooo full..!!
Well... Some buds have dropped and I tore one open to find more than one skirt.. more than 2 skirts.. there is something else gonna come out... there were either "fluffles" or a 3rd skirt.. or like a shredded skirt... I can't tell for sure. I sure wish I could post pics for you to see... but My digital Camera and my cell phone were stolen from the Halloween Party I gave for the resident's here where I work.. so I won't be able to post.. I'm heart broken..
Oh no - I'm so sorry your things were stolen, but even more sorry we can't see pictures.
