Miss Anna Brug

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I finally got a full flush of blooms on my brug. I don't know if it's the slightly cooler weather or the extra feeding I'm giving it, but it's spectacular right now.

C, how old is your plant? where planted? U have a very love brug. Mine ares blooming too, but not nearly as bushy looking.

Mine was planted in April. It was a rooted 6" cutting when put in ground. It got really tall, but only had a few blooms one time in July. I posted to DG for help with it's not blooming. I'd been using Ozmocote as fertilizer and someone said try Miracle Grow since the Ozmocote was slow release, it wouln't give it enough nutrients at one time to get blooms. I've fed it several times with the Miracle Grow and it's blooming like crazy. I don't know if it's the fertilizer or just the slightly cooler temps we had for a brief week doing the trick. My house is "U" shaped around the back yard and swimming pool, with the U facing north. The brug is on the inside western wall of the U and gets sun from about 10:00 am on, and the full force of the evening sun. I'm just glad I finall got blooms! Oh, and it was bushier before I broke several limbs while trying to tie it up. It was top heavy and needed staking.

Beautiful brug and I love the color of the blooms! I am a new brug gardener and always watch for great tips from experienced brug growers! Great tip on fertilizer which makes a lot of sense, slow release vs. immediate. Hhhhmmmmmm, interesting thought and well worth a try after seeing your gorgeous brug! Thanks for sharing with us!

Beautiful Brug Crow. I'm still feeding mine and still waiting on some blooms. Mine was a cutting I put in this spring. It's real pretty and tall but no blooms yet. Maybe I'll have a few before frost anyway.

Crow that's wonderful. Sorry to ask if you already stated previously, is yours planted in the ground? I have several that I have kept in pots and they get the very worst of the brutal sun. Must say they didn't seem to like it all that much. I was thinking that maybe they required some relief from the worst of the sun here, but your's looks so good!

April, mine is planted in the ground. Since it's on the west side of the house/garage wall, it's get the brutal evening sun. It does wilt during the worst of it, but perks back up by about 5:30 pm. I water it when I water the pot plants in the same area, but will give it extra if it fails to perk up after the sun is down. I haven't had any problems with it other than slow to bloom. This one is supposed to open yellow and then turn pink. The first few blooms did that, but these are staying yellow. Figures, since I wanted a pink one! Try Miracle Grow on yours and see if that helps. I just took about two of the small scoops out of the carton and placed at the foot of the brug and watered in. I didn't even bother mixing it or using the hose sprayer this is supposed to go in. I'm hoping it overwinters in the ground, but I'll take a couple of cuttings, just in case. A number of people in my neighborhood have had them in ground here for many years with no problems.

I have seen lots of folks right around me that have different brugs in the ground w/o any problems. If nothing else I would bet it's root hardy. Very pretty. I'd like a pink too, so far have all yellows- my one little bitty pink one has only put out a few buds which all manage to fall off way before they bloom.
