I called DH to take a look at this cool plant and his comment was: "that doesn't look like a cactus; that looks like a funnel cake".

LOL vossner, I didn't think of that one. I just thought it actually looked like a brain when I first saw this.

This is a ''Crest'' rather than a "Monstrosus". (ie., Mammillaria elongata f. cristate)
ALL, crested cacti are called "Brain Cactus"

It's the same plant as in palmbob's photo so I just went with the flow. I was under the impression that 'monstrose' refered to any deformed cacti, including crests.

'Monstrose' or 'Monstrosa' or 'Monstruosus' is a contortion or a monster formation of the Ribs.

It can very rarely be both, but yours and Palmbobs are a 'Cristate' only.
