wild phlox and wild lupin

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

I bought wild phlox and wild lupin seeds when I visited Prince Edward Island this past summer and I need to know the best way to plant them. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The phlox - just scatter and plant in the spring or start inside if you do that. Try some winter sowing too, if you are into that.

Lupins - I always nick them and soak for 24 hours -or so- before planting in spring. I plant outside in a pot and then transplant ASAP - they hate being moved in my opinion.

Zone 7b, hmm... ask your local (good) nursery perhaps.
I dont have much experience about gardening in zone 7.

Hi My lupines seed themselves, and I have wild ones as well. I started with 6 plants about 4 years ago. I now have every color combination, and most are bi-colored

Just so you know, most of the "wild" lupines growing on the East Coast are not native, they are garden escapes!

oltmanns you have the garden of my dreams!!! Gorgeous! (says one who has rotten luck with lupins). :(

echo that sentiment from pam; mine do fine for a couple of years and then the aphids decide they are the best things on the planet and since i don't use any chemicals i have removed their food source
maybe i will try again next spring
