What a Beautiful African Violet! I am new to the DG website .... one week today! I am having a blast reading and chatting and submitting questions etc. So many smart plant people out there!

I have about 7 or 8 African Violets .... that I really should "baby" a bit more (actually, a lot more). Any recommendation for what fertilizer is best? I don't have the slightest idea what the names of my AV's are, I have always thrown out the id tags! Bad, huh? I have made up my mind not to do that anymore! I have lots of house plants and I decided, little by little, I'm going to do research and try to make tags for them all! I have already gotten the ID of 2 or 3 of my plants from some of the Great folks on the DG site!

I love the coloration on the leaves of your "Wrangler's Pink Patches" Violet. Does anyone know of a mailorder source for Violets? Especially, this one? Are there many other AV's that have the vareigated foliage like this? I think I will do a web search and see what I find, but if anyone has any trusted source they've dealt with in the past, I would love to know of a few.

Thanks,
Lin

Lin - I have found that Lyon's has been the most consistent in sending quality well grown plants.

Also, if you like miniature growers, Rob's Violet Barn has tons of his hybrids as well as a few others.

And, the answer is yes on variegated varieties. Many, many out there to choose from. As your collection grows, ID'ing/labeling them becomes more important as it gets difficult to remember all their names.

Welcome!

Good idea Violet_Treasure,I will try some of pink patches leaves for spring trades! With everyones great info on leaf propogation I feel alot braver and I WILL make babies!!!

PLantladylin you are in luck! I am orginally from DeLand and I know an awesome violet grower in Debary. I found him on ebay and have bought many violets from him. He has an ebay store named Pj's Plants and Things, his ebay id is pjsviolets. He sells plants or leaves.
You can look on ebay at his BIG beautiful plants and either buy/bid on them. You can also email him and he will meet you and sell plants to you locally. I met him in Deland when I was down there and bought some beautiful violets and epicias . He is very reasonable and sells healthy plants. You can make a list of plants he has for sale on ebay that you like and buy them direct from him...no shipping costs that way!! He has varigated varieties too! Tell him the lady who met him at Checkers(hamburger place) in Deland sent you. I will be coming back to DeLand after Christmas and I will most definately be contacting him for more plants to bring back to Arkansas with me! I love Daytona Beach and I miss being "home" sometimes, but I do enjoy living in Arkansas now. It is so nice to meet you here!
Good Luck!
