I found some very informative sites out there - forgive me if others have found these already. Since many of us are new, I figured maybe it might be helpful
Very detailed database for host plants- based on Scientific names only! (plants and butterflies) Covers the world
http://www.nhm.ac.uk/research-curation/projects/hostplants/
Online database for Florida only - very user friendly, has pictures and lists all known butterfly families that use the plant as a host (probably would be useful to Georgia-Alabama-Louisiana also)
http://www.nsis.org/butterfly/butterfly-plants-larval.html
One for Washington D.C.
http://home.earthlink.net/~drkilmer/Plantlist.html
Very simple but large list of native Texas plants for larval hosts:
http://www.npsot.org/Austin/PlantLists/mirror/LarvalHostPlants.html
Another world wide listing (must know scientific name of plant) - this works by taking you through an alpahbetical list of plants - click on the plant name which will then show you the scientific name of the butterfly or moth species it hosts; once at the butterfly name it will show a map of the world where the species is found and will often times provide links to pictures of the butterfly, larvae and even chrysalis. (not terribly user friendly, but literally scads of info here)
http://ftp.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life/warp/food-plants-a.html
For those that would rather print out a list, here's a nice site with a 31 page PDF file of plants, butterfly species, who nectars on what, and who lays eggs on what:
http://hillcountryhome.com/a1pub/butterfly_plants.pdf
A short but sweet list that gives the common name of the butterfly, with it's scientific name, and the host plants:
http://butterflygardeners.com/larval.htm
Site for all kinds of lists, links, photos, etc: (by state and topic, all states not included)
http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/hortinternet/butterflies.html
A good photo website for ID'ing butterflies:
http://butterflywebsite.com/gallery/index.cfm#swa
And yet another ID site:
http://www.naba.org/images/index.html
And last but not least, in case anyone is not familiar with this site, it has excellent photos of butterflies and moths of North America:
http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/
And that about wraps up my tired brain for a list of good resources for lots of people to use! Hope it helps :)

Butterfly Host Plant Sites, ID sites and more
Thanks Hineni.......a lot of useful sites there! Thanks for your time linking them :)
Thanks, Hineni, So many links with good info! I use the the NABA site and the USGA for researching a lot.
Here is a host plant page created by a midwestern butterfly gardener to add to the collection:
http://www.butterflygardeningandconservation.com/plant/host.php
Although it's not a professional site, I think it's got the 'basics' for butterflies for newbie midwestern BF gardeners with pics of the host plants and butterflies that will survive in our climates.
Sunny, thanks. I had a couple of those, but not all. Pick up new info here everyday.
t, thanks, also. that is one I didn't have. I rarely find anything for my specific location, but a lot of midwest or northeast sites work for me
You're welcome all. My goal was king of a one-stop-info-shop for people who are new to read over and have it all in one easy location (and for those of us that are now in our 2nd instar stage at DG too...haha!)
