I was told that ducks that are hatched re incubator are in danger or drowing, if they are put in water too young. Is this true and, if so, could you give me more information or a site where I can learn more? Our ducks were raised with chickens, in a crate and were never on the ground until they joined us. First thing they did was jump into the water and they did not sink or dround, but swam freely and even dived under the water for treats. Any info or sites you might have will be sincerely appreciated!!
True or falst??
The only problem ducks have without the mother is they may get chilled if in the water to long. the mother protects them from getting chilled. When they are not feathered out I give them the water to swim in, in the heat of the day and take it away in the evenings. they do get the water from the waterers all the time. Ducks grow fast so they will feather out pretty quick once they do don't worry anymore.
Hope i helped some.
Ducklings not raised with their mother are in danger of drowning
They do not have working oil glands when they are born
I've heard its anywhere between 6-8 weeks before it forms
Mom duck keeps their feathers oiled up till theirs starts to work
Without the oil the feathers will not repel the water like it should
the feathers become saturated......
Boy, I really hate it when I have an error in the subject line, haunts ya forever, whew, sorry about that.
Thanks for both the replies. Yours, cc, is what I've always heard as fact, you expressed it better than I did.
