I've gotten so much enjoyment out of seedpickers Bat LILY thread, and Halloween is coming.... I personally don't know much about this plant. It is a friend's plant which I'VE traded off, lol - ran out of stuff at my house, HA! I will return to the nursery he got it from in Spring and get one for me, but I think the little blooms are adorable.....
Cuphea (Bat face)
Aunt B, I love the cupheas too. Not only attractive also amusing. I love the cigar cuphea
too. Glasshouse works used to have a good size collection of cupheas. Be warned
if you go to their site, It's a monster to load and navigate .
I have one similar infact looks the same, it was labled firecracker (cuphea purpurea), its grown in very thick infact so much so that its on the driveway almost 2 ft, and I've found that hummingbirds are attracted to its flowers.
Yes, hummingbirds love this plant. I have the large cigar plant and have seen 10 hummers on it at one time.
Jeri
That is one of my favorite plants Aunt B! I planted a couple in a medium gray urn with red seed Geraniums (Pelargoniums) and a Russian Sage plant. It was a really nice combo!
I have the firecracker/lipstick/large cigar, but it didn't grow very big, maybe I didn't give it what it needs... it got part-full sun, watered almost daily in the heat of summer. Oh, Badseed, beautiful combo, I had mine growing up a trellis in the middle of a pot with coleus and dichondra silver falls. I still enjoyed the blooms, so unique.
