wont be long now...

...before i get my first fall blooms
these are plain old crocus speciosus -- or they will be when they open -- but I like them
it is so cool to see something springing to life when most things are beginning to slow down
no sign of the kotschyanus I planted last year, they didn't bloom then either but sent up foliage in the spring so I'm still hoping for some blooms this year

Are they more fully open? I'm really wishing I had some autumn crocus!

Yes they are more open now. My camera doesn't capture the pink properly but the yellow and orange are right.

Ooo... yes... I really need to get some. Did you plant them in spring or fall?
And where did you get them?

I planted them last year in September and they bloomed in October the same year. In the spring they send up grass-like leaves to make food for bulbs so keep that it mind when planning where to plant them. I got mine from Bluestone Perennials, but there are a ton of reputable bulb dealers.

Hi xmas! (great nick)

I also put my crocus in the ground in September (this year)... no sign of anything yet.. Do you think they need full sun to pop up? How cold is it in NY?

aah, bulbs make me nervous! I need to overcome disbelief - I look at them and somehow I have a hard time believing that it will work.. so I bought and planted some bulbs this year - I was so hoping that I'd get my leap of faith LOL!

Any advice? Yours seem to be turning out just fine!

The only advice I can offer is wait and see. Like I said in my first post the specious crocuses have bloomed twice but the kotschyanus crocuses still haven't. Both where planted at the same time and both only get about 4 hours of direct sunlight a day.

It may just be that its not cool enough yet over there. In NY the last couple of weeks has been 60s to 70s during the day, 50s at night. I know that other DGers in Canada got their blooms in September.

If you don't see anything this year wait until spring and see if they send up leaves. If they do then you can try fertilizing them and keep hope alive for next fall.

Good luck
