I think the common name is "Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana'
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/54287/index.html
Reason I ask is that I've had one for about three years now, and I don't think I've ever seen a new leaf come out on this plant. The pot came with two stalks, but one died off after I think I over watered it (which didn't take much, I water it once a month now).
Any idea why this thing won't grow? It hardly ever drinks any water and it's like a plastic plant.
Do 'cornstalk' plants every actually grow?
Really? Hrm, I always thought they were low light, LOL. Maybe that was the problem.
I agree.....we're led to believe that many plants that are 'tagged' as 'Low-light' plants will actually *grow* in that light....but more often than not, they don't....they're simply 'sustained'.......
Everyone's opinion of 'low light' is different, too.....they may grow a lot in a greenhouse or outdoors with low-light conditions, but we all know that indoors is a different story.
