October pictures of the pond areas

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Let me begin with this lovely pink water lily. They have been so fabulous -the first time they are blooming for a long time - an indication of a well-settled pond water chemistry.

There were two the same day.

Now this is the blue, giving me joy since March. I have lost count of the blues now. I was overjoyed when the first one showed up.

I had no choice, but to sit there and admire that morning. There were just 10 seconds for this self-timer. It looks as though I am sitting and relaxing there for many minutes! Nice acting, eh??

These "water walkers" are common.

The pond is not seen here, but the protective net can be seen on top left. That's where my pond is located.

You pond is so beautiful and blooms are wonderful. Any fertelizer?
Kaleem

Such beautiful blooms, Dinu! And the leaves show no bugs on them like mine do. I have so many black aphids on the leaves all the time.
I love the photo of you sitting by the pond. Very peaceful looking, so you must be a good actor!

Acting is not my cup of tea and in fact, I have a reputation for this going as well. I was myself surprised at this 'natural'! That's why I chose that sentence for that post.

No fertilizer for the pond. Just natural soil used for the pots. I'll call myself an organic gardener. So no chemicals used. I have noticed that organic gardening has plenty of benefits. The pests take care of themselves. Damage is not heavy and is in tolerable limits. It seems to control itself with nature if we don't use insecticides. Whereas it seems to grow more the next season or after sometime if chemicals are used. This is what I have noticed from my own experience as well as from what other organic gardeners say from their. It is like tasting sugar -- you can't describe sweetness - you have to put it on the tongue to 'experience' the sweetness. I have found the natural methods the best. Insects will be there, but they get satisfied with little food.

Thanks Snapple. Regards to your boss in office.

You are a great actor as well as a comedian. : )

I love your pond. I have a special fondness for water lilies and your colors are so beautiful!

Dinu - Your pond is really lovely!

I have a very small pond, which looks more like a very large container bowl. I have had so many blooms this first year. They were all young starter plants. All my water lilies are growing in sand, not soil. Which is why I have to use fertilizer. You must have very rich soil there! Congrats on the blooming beauty of your water garden! It looks wonderful!

Thanks very much. Comedian? Ha ha ha. There is a Kannada Song that runs something like this "Laugh.. and make others laugh...." One has to laugh to be healthy - so we need comedians around us, don't we?

Well, here is today's blooms of my pond.

I love the new pictures of your water garden. It is just lovely! Thank you so much for sharing with us. :)

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Yes, we definately need comedians! I love to laugh and even a smile is healthy!

Color is a second need! Your water lilies are beautiful! I'm used to seeing the ''wild'' yellow ones.

I try to keep some distance with those with no sense of humour. Somehow, I cannot keep quiet if I want to tell something on the lighter side.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

I do too! I love to laugh!

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Hahahahohoho! A full-throated laugh!

Wow, what a picture! I love the colors they are.

When I was little, my Grandparents had a cabin on the Mississippi. We had to walk or drive over a huge levee to get to the river. Dad always took us out in the tall pleasure boat, but sometimes we got the john boat out. Once, when the motor wouldn't turn over, my sister and I grabbed the oars and managed to row over to the lily pads and get a yellow lotus. I remember it smelled heavenly. I've treasured them to this day.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

You mean the heavenly smell? Yes, I understand that. These olfactory memory is amazing, isn't it? Our minds can recall it! I remember a particular taste of a cough lozenge that my grandfather used to keep. It was called 'Sucrets' and we used to beg him for that.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Laughing over the Sucrets! We had Ludens Wild Cherry, but my favorite is the Smith Brothers cherry. Ludens also had a honey flavor, but it wasn't as good as cherry!

My other favorite flower as a child was Sweet Peas. The neighbor up the block had them and I thought they were the neatest looking flower.

The other thing I remember was the pungency of onions. My grandmother had a separate cutting blade for them. When it was being cut, everyone had tears rolling out, rubbing eyes. Onions of recent times don't have a strong pungency. The aroma was so very strong.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

My homegrown onions seem to be really bad even tho I use a very sharp knife. I can cut onions with my eyes closed now!

I don't think I've ever made a whole roomful of people cry tho. That gave me a giggle thinking about it.
