Hello, I'm a newbie. :)
I am living in a mobile home park that is thankfully, free with the gardening rules, with large tree filled lots!
As you are probably aware, mobile homes are usually lined up vertically, with each lot having a side yard between the homes.
My neighbor unfortunately has a large pole topped with an old fashioned antenna that she no longer uses but has no intention of ever taking down. It's on the "back" of her home, witch means it's in "my" yard. It's very, very, sturdy and tall. I was hoping I could grow a vine up the sucker and turn an eye sore into a feature! It's on the north end of her home, though, so it makes it tricky. The vine would be shaded for most of the day. That is, until it reached at least 10 feet up the pole, then it would get plenty of sun.
I was hoping that crossvine would be an excellent choice, but I don't know if it will grab a hold and prosper. If there are other options, I would love to hear them.
Question about Trumpet Flower/Crossvine
Hello Larissa, the Crossvine would be excellent for your purpose since it is evergreen, but if the pole is made of metal, you may have to tie it at intervals of 4 or 5 feet to keep it in place, since it has no tendrils, and plants cant attach themselvels to metal. They can twist themselves around it, but they probably would come down eventually because of their weight.
Another good vine would be Carolina Snailseed, that one is deciduos as well as Trumpet vine.
I hope that helps.
Josephine.

Thanks!
What would be safe to use as a tie?
I would say some kind of rope, metal might cut into the vine.
