Have Pink Penta cuttings
Just out of curiosity cuz I have some Pentas, do u start new plants from these cuttings? Where do u cut?
On Plant files it says soft wood cuttings.
let me know how it goes! I was thinking of doing the same with mine.
Yeah cause you won't have to buy new ones in the spring. But I will definately have more than I need cause they get a lot bigger than I thought they would. It says the are propgated by cuttings. I haven't done it yet but I will let you know.
Please do- I bought 2 named cultivars this year- first time- and and I am very, very pleased with them, I would love to root some cuttings for next year
I wonder about seeds in case they don't root well. I haven't seen any, have you. I really think it will root. I am having rather good sucess with rooting. I am going to put some in my vbubbler this week end. Which ones do you have?
"Cranberry Punch" and "Jessica." I am truly pleased with their performance. I've grown plenty of pentas in the past but these have done way, way better with little to no care. Our weather has been extra crummy this year, so I was impressed!
Ours too, extra hot and dry! Mine have done well too. They have gotten bigger that I had anticipated and they aare crowding out some of the other plants. That is one reason I am cutting them back. And I thought instaead of wasating them I would root them for next year. but I am going to put them in another location. I have a much better place for them. I Had seen some that were purple but there weren't but one or two so I didn't get them. I wish mine were darker. They are pretty, but would show up better if they were darker. Cranberry punch sounds pretty! What color is Jessica? I had red last year, but only in a washtub turned planter! LOL
Carol
Jessica is shocking pink, Cranberry Punch is bright red. I tend to go for really bright colors, must be the child in me....the garden that they are in looks like a box of Crayolas exploded in it! Martha Stewart would probably faint.
I'll try to get a pic of the pentas while I'm outside today. I haven't been able to garden for the last couple of months, so the larger plants have really crowded out the smaller ones. I hate to cut anything that's blooming, but today may be the day....my Mexican petunias and salvia are lovely but they are massive!
Carol how does one root these cuttings? Regular soil, root hormone?
Tina
I am rooting them in water in my bubbler. If you are intersted, look them up in plant files and read the comments written about them. The most comments are in the first one. Some talk of them rooting easily...
