anyone recognize this plant?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I gave a number of plants and cuttings to my mom in the spring. Now she is sending me pics of all of them to ID again so she knows which ones should be brought in for the winter. I figured them all out but one, which has me completely stumped. It sort of looks like TX star hibiscus except I know for sure I didn't give her one of those. I can't find anything in my garden that looks like it. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, Kim

Kim,...it sure looks like a Tx. Star H....is that a seed pod on the plant on the right? It kinda looks like one of a TSH Lee

It looks like a spider ;)

Hello!

No, I don't think it's a seed pod because my mom said it never bloomed for her. Also, she said the stems that the leaves are on have little thorns on them. My TX star doesn't have any thorns, so I don't think that's it . Sure does look like it though. Lol about the spider though fly girl, I didn't see it until you pointed it out. Sure is a biggy!

I think it is Hibiscus cannabinus, October Rose, check it out.

Gee, Josephine, I almost blurted out Cannabis, but then I've never
seen one. Would it be possible that a bird could have dropped a seed?
I sure hope it is October Rose.

Yep,...thorns definitely rule out the TSH....and I'd rather grab that spider than the seed pod of an October Rose. :~)

Well, it looks like there are two types of hibiscus that fit the description the first one Hibiscus cannbinus, and the second one Hibiscus radiatus they both have that type of leaf and the spiny seedpods.

So it looks like a toss up, maybe someone can pinpoint it.
