Do you cook with your African Blue

BAsil that is.

Just wondering, I really didn't know if it was ornamental or culinary. I do love the fragrance.

This is one plant that I bought at the beginning of spring, which I completely cut down once, andit came back full force LOL

cut back because it fell over from storms and was killing out other plants, it's a determined bugger.

Kathy_ann ~ I have no experience with this one. If this is O . kilimandscharicum ~ African basil, the book says it has a camphorlike scent and becomes woody, treelike to 36 ". I wonder how camphor would enhance food. Will watch this thread. Maybe someone has an answer... pod

I don't know about that, I doesn't smell like camphor to me, it smells wonderful LOL

I haven't tried it, but one of my friends cooks with it in place of regular basil and loves it. I would think any basil would be okay for you and after that its a matter of taste. To me Thai basil, which is delicious, and African basil smell a lot alike. I suggest trying it on something small, then moving ahead if you like it.
African basil grown in Africa may be a lot bigger and more wildly flavored than African basil grown in the US.
Interesting data point. My basil never grows back the next year from seed -- except holy basil. I am amazed since it comes from India.

thanks I"ll do that
