Bromeliad

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Do you guys remember a while back when Allison ordered some Bromeliads? Well she bought some real beauties and I sort of got the bromeliad fever, although at that time I could not find any to buy. Then last night when I was Wally world one of them jumped up and landed right in my cart and said he was going home with me. I tried to argue with him but he would not let up. So here he is, unable to remember his name, just like I do sometimes. I never knew plants could get CRS (Can't Remember Stuff) but he can't remember anything. So I told him that he could stay and maybe we could contact the people on DG to see if any of you know what his name is. So does anyone know what his it is? If so, please let us know. I know he will be so happy to find out his real name. He really does not like being called Mr. B. LOL

Thanks,
Jesse

Thanks for all the compliments. I just fell in love with the litty guy at Wally world. They also have one like it that is brown and looks sort of like a tiger stripe. I was not sure if I wanted that one or not. I'm still thinking about him. Having a greenhouse sure does make a difference in my life. Now I can water my plants without so much pain. I used to have to lie flat on my back after watering my plants. Now I can get them all done in about 20 minuttes except for the ones indoors which takes only 5 minutes because of the way that I have them set up now. I need to pot up some cuttings that I have sitting in water. I stuck this tiny piece of Pilea in some water in a tiny medicine bottle and I looled at it today and almost fainted. It has tons of roots. Some times it is fun just potting them up to watch them grow. I think I'm going to put it in the terrarium. The terrarium is looking good now and I think this tiny little piece will look really great in it.

Oh guess what? I bought my pump and my tubing for making my own cloning machine. I had bought these materials a few months back just for making this but we needed the money so I had to return them. But this time I am going to keep it and work on my cloing maching. I want to do some experiments. I want to put two identical cuttings in water, one in just plain water and the other in the pot with the air bubbles and see which one produces roots first. That should be an interesting project.

Got to run now.

Hugs and love,
Jesse

Hey Jesse...does Mr. B stand for Mr. Beautiful? If not, it should! Our Wally World doesn't seem to get all the neat plants I see on this forum. Very run of the mill for the most part. Maybe I'm there at the wrong times.

I'm very interested in your cloning machine. Please post updates and results.

I was thinking that it stood for Mr Bromeliad, but he might like it if I tell him that it stands for Mr. Beautiful. And I'm sure that he will be happy when I tell him his new name. Our Wally World has never had anything like this before so I was shocked when I found them. They also had that beautiful Sansevieria cylindrica which I had never ever seen in any store before. This is the first time they have had such a good variety. I was so happy with all that they had and so I'm going back tonight and get a couple more pansies to start a container out front. My coleus is mostly dead although I did manage to get cuttings from all of them. So I will have my coleus next year. I just need to find out if a sweet potato vine grown from inside with the toothpicks in a jar are the same as the ones we buy. Once they have roots, can they be taken from the jar and planted outside.

Your Sans Cylindrica is so cool! I did the same thing the other day and bought pansies at Wally World and put in planters on my front porch. I love the bright colors and cheerful 'faces' . Also took coleus cuttings of a couple favs that I didn't want to lose.

Sweet potato vines....I remember growing them as a kid like you said with the toothpicks. Loved it! Somehow I do not think the ones they sell now for planter/basket accent plants are the same...related though I guess. The lime green ones look so good with the bright coleus colors.
