Hey Yall From The Coastal Bend of Texas!

Ingleside, TX(Zone 9a)

How are yall doin? Gosh! I am glad I found this Welcome Mat! I am a newbie to DG and to gardening! I have posted some questions on here and a couple of times I was met with..well, I guess what I would call rudeness and curt answers. I feel like maybe I am bothering some folks..but for the vast majority of folks, I have found so much help and KNOWLEDGE! Ok..that said..My name is Randa(rhymes with panda). I am 46, happily married to my best friend and soul mate, Aaron. We just added a member to our family..our grand-daughter, Kali(rhymes with sally) Elise. My son and DIL gave her my middle name. It's from Elizabeth, which is my Mom's middle name. Needless to say, I am bursting with pride! She is one month old and just beautiful..Between my hubby..oops DH and me, we have 5 kids. Oldest is Amy..a CEO with a major internet/communications company, married and mommy to our oldest grand-daughter, Jordyn. Amy is such an awesome girl. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis this past winter..but is currently in remission..PTL!! She is undertaking her first Walk for MS later this month in Austin..(go get em Amy!)Next is Jack..He is our free spirit..lives in South East Texas and has turned out to be a fine young man. Amber is the yougest daughter. She was widowed at the tender age of 19, with a 2 month old at the time. This would be our oldest grandson, Michael. She is a dental hygienist. James, married to my sweetheart of a DIL, and daddy to Alex and Kali, is a boat captain for The Port of Corpus Christi. Last but not least, Thomas. A senior in high school, living in East Texas with his Mom..and smart as a whip!.(did i miss anyone? lol!). I am BIG on family, I guess you can tell! I love plants..My faves are perennials, succulents, vines, and fragrants! We also have a water garden with 5 fish and as of today, 3 toads in residence. I do both containers and ..what do you call them..in the ground..in the yard kind(told ya i was new!). I have a spoiled rotten Boston Terrier named Toby..Sargent Tobias Caldwell when he is in trouble!..I also have a rescued cat named Bob..yeah.different name..but when I asked my then 16 month old grandson what we should call the kitty cat..sure sounded like he said, "Bob", to me!..We are Native Texans but have traveled extensively. My husband builds and installs telescopes around the world(think Hubble)..and also builds satellite defense radars for our military..We are big antiquers and love flea markets and yard sales..Well, you can see we have a bit of an eclectic life, but it is a GREAT one! I hope to hear from some of yall really soon..and if you have been around for any length of time, you can bet I will come to you for advice and tips on gardening!..Happy gardening to you all..and the grass IS greener..the flowers prettier..the people friendlier..on DG's website!!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Laughing. Love Shrek!

Ingleside, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi there again! Yeah, Shrek is a fave around here..Another we watch a lot is Monsters, Inc..I am more partial to it..and actually, so is Alex..but when I put it in the DVD player..it was acting up..I think we need a new copy!! LOL!

A big welcome to you Turbosbabe, glad to have you to chat with @ DG. You'll have so much fun here in and out of the garden. No question to big nor too small! Isn't that grand! ;0)

Hello welcome nice to have you, have lots Texans here..lots of us like to talk, talk talk..

Ingleside, TX(Zone 9a)

Did yall see that special on TV about the mental differences between men and women? Women have a daily vocabulary of like 8000 words(dh says mine more like 16,000!!lol)..men was less than half that! Said it is medically, clinically impossible for men to hear everything that we women say..hmmmm..Wonder if a man produced that show? LOL!
Still, when I tell my DH something and 20 minutes later, he asks a question that I DIRECTLY already told him that 20 minutes ago...I tell him..Oh honey! You cant help it! Your brain isnt wired right..LOL!!
(it was an interesting show..dateline or something like that!)

Crossville, TN

Turbo...WELCOME!! You'll love this place more and more as time goes by.....

I watched the show you mentioned...opened up a lot of eyes!

How far are you from College Station? Dave himself, and his DW, Trish will be hosting a Round up there on Nov. 4th...you really should try to attend!

Sorry you ran into some one having a bad day...I'm sure that was the reason for the rudness! Jo

Ingleside, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah..maybe so..I hope so. I would hate to think someone lived their lives being sooo miserable..
And AWWW MANNNNN...We are a LONG ways from CS..but what is so weird..we used to live about an hour from CS..AND my Daddy was an Aggie!!! He taught there for a while back in the early 70s. Anyway..we are waaaaay down south..It's called The Coastal Bend area of South Texas..whew!..I am about 15-20 minutes from Corpus Christi! I would like to go to a round up..but I donno.I am still soo new..and dont know a lot..Maybe one day when I learn more..I ask soooo many questions on here..I know folks must think I am dingy as a bell! (i'm not yall..just curious and eager to learn!)

Turbo, eagerness and curiousity are a plus. Most folks on DG are friendly and are very willing to share information and give insights, so truly no question is too big nor too small. Again a big welcome.

Ingleside, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi yall!..Any of yall familiar with the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughn? If not, he is a legend in these parts..superior blues singer/guitarist. He had lived the life of drugs and alcohol for years...yet still, was revered for his talent. Like it seems to go sometimes, he had gotten clean and sober..and was on the way to national..international fame..and was killed much too young in a helicopter crash..Anyway, one of his songs is "It's Floodin Down in Texas"...and boy, does it fit the bill today!!
I moved some of my plants to where they wont get totally soaked and beaten down by this hard rain..and dang it, today, in Corpus..20 mins away is an annual event at the American Bank Center..called Best of the Best..it's a GREAT event..but, I dont guess we will make it..Flood watches out..and no sign of let up in the rain..And soooo many folks go that is just impossible to get a close park..*sigh*...cant get out and garden..raining too hard to go anywhere..Guess I better dig out the ole cookbook and look for something new and interesting to bake!!!
How is yalls day goin?
