The Show Is On!

St. Paul, MN(Zone 4b)

Hello All.

Thanks to unusually warm weather this late in the fall, all of my Brugs are blooming up a storm and putting on quite the show in the front of our condominium building. Tonight and the next few nights will be the height of the show.

Here is a picture from the street.

Brugmansia versicolor? These started out pure white and are slowly getting darker. I would call them light salmon. The credit goes to smkennedy for giving this beautiful standard to me.

insignis Gold. This has probably my favorite scent - it's not as overpoweringly sweet as some of the others. It's just real nice.

Frosty Pink. These tend to bloom in small groups of 2-4 flowers rather than flushes for me.

Finally, Sunray. These just started opening yesterday and have not yet fully colored up.

Keeping my small Brugmansia collection going over the last year has been A LOT (and I do mean A LOT) of work, but I have learned alot and enjoyed many small successes. Seeing their blooms in my front yard makes it all seem worthwhile.

That said, I am not looking forward to dragging them all downstairs for the winter. But I'll do it.

What a Grand entrance you have!!
Great to see you are enjoying the fall blooms and your weather cooperated. I think your versi looks like EP.
CG really puts out a wonderful fragrance and the blooms get such a nice rich color after several days.
I keep looking at mine in bloom now and wonder how the heck I'm gonna get them downstairs once again!!!
Lucky for them they put on a show this time of year that convinces me to overwinter them once again....LOL
Well done Erick

P.S. Here is a picture taken last night. This kinda show helps me make up my mind to bring them indoors once again for the winter!!!

WOW Kin, just great.

Oh Erick, you have done so well. All yours are so healthy and happy. Just fantastic. Even your EP is gorgeous and I usually do not even like that one much!

Erick, job well done. The blooms are your reward and well deserved. Congrats on making such a grand entrance.

Thank you all for your very kind comments. There is just nothing like Brugmansia blooms. I have tons of people stopping by to see them. I should charge admission!

Kin, that is a GORGEOUS Brug - congratulations to you!

Erick, Your brugmansia's are gorgeous, they all look so lush and healthy. I am
envious of all your blooms. I only have two unnamed seedlings blooming and fall is usually my best blooming time.

Erick,
Your brugs look super! Congratulations on a beautiful entry.

Thank you jerodsmom and Sharon. It took FOREVER for my Brugs to Y and start producing buds. I am thrilled that our warm weather is lasting so long so that they can bloom out!

Thank you Dedda! I just came in from sitting on the front steps for awhile to enjoy the show. Oddly enough, it is still warm enough for that here (it's supposed to be nearly 80F tomorrow - amazing - we could get snow anytime now!). There are literally a 100+ open blooms on my small collection of Brugs, with many more to come. It is simply a spectacular sight. Considering all that I've been through with these plants over the last year, I am trying to soak up as much joy as possible! And then there is the fragrance....each variety has its own twist, and the mix in the yard is wonderfully intoxicating. What a treat.

Thank you all again,

Erick

Congratulations Erick!! That entrance is awesome... Now didn't you post some months ago when they were all small and someone gave you advice about Messenger and Fertilizer? I may be wrong, but I thought I remember that entrance... If that was you and these are the same brugs.. now THAT is an amazing progression! If I'm wrong, no biggie.. your brugs are still amazing.
Great job!

ZZsBabiez,

That is a great memory you have there! You are correct. I posted a picture of my two Charles Grimaldi's back on June 19th, when they were little more than rooted cuttings. Here is that picture again. They are now the huge Charles Grimaldi's in the middle of my picture at the start of this thread, behind the insignis Gold and Ecuador Pink standard in front. They each have 25+ blooms and buds!

Many kind folks on this site gave me great advice, including fertilizing them more and using Messenger on them. So I started fertilizing them several times a week, and Messengering them every few weeks. Here they are two weeks later, on July 3rd, starting to get it together.

Frankly, I didn't expect to see blooms this year. Fortunately, I was wrong!

Thank you,

Erick

Just for fun, here is my insignis Gold in mid-June. It's now the gorgeous bush in the front left of the first picture in this thread.
