Transplanting Esperanza, Russian Sage and Coneaster

Spring Branch, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi y'all,
I'm 15 months new to Texas (moved from South Florida) and loving it! Wish we'd moved here 20 years ago. After waiting a year to get the lay of the land I'm finally starting to plant. I have some beautiful Esperanza, Russian Sage and coneaster that were planted to close to the foundations. I want to move them. How and when is the best way to transplant them?

Thanks for all your help in advance. PS I apologize if this topic was covered before, but I did not find any references.

I would say the best time is when they are dormant, which depending on your zone could be from November on.

and unless you want to water all summer i almost never plant in the spring. fall is always better for me. but it ain't raining in my part of texas anymore anyway so probably doesn't matter. lol. and trizia, is your soil clay or sandy? if it's clay i would buy a pitchfork to break the dirt up in the summer so you can get water to the plants. i bought a lifetime warranty pitchfork from home depot 5-6 yrs. ago. i break one about every year to year and a half............in the dirt.....................i am on my 5th pitchfork for the original 30.00 i spent. no joke.

Mamajack, that's for posting about the lifetime pitchfork. I'm going to check to see if they still have that offer because with our gumbo clay, I also break them often.

home depot used to sell the kodiak brand with a lifetime warranty. that's what my first 4 were. now it's the "RIGID" brand. but it still has lifetime warranty. so next year sometime i will be replacing that one i am sure. lol.
