October buds and flowers

Trelleborg, Sweden

My tomataensis opened up tonight, but it's not the red one that I ordered... Though the flowers are cute I'm also quite disappointed! (Flowers are less than 10 mm across)

Last but not least...hoya obscura setting seed pods again. I don't know what is pollinating this but it is doing a heck of a job! I've got 5 or 6 pods this time.

Neat pictures of your developing pods, and H. fungii is really awesome !!!

H. sp. sulawesi, this is just the coolest hoya. When I brought them in from outside they started putting on peduncles. This particular peduncle is 3 1/2 inches long. I can't wait to see the bloom. The leaves turn a beautiful red in high light.

H. australis ssp. australis

I cut this one way back as Mark suggested after I had lost all the peduncles. It has put on 8 new peduncles and seems to be loving life. Now if I can just get my variagated australis to cooperate...

H. motoskei, I think.. Waiting for bloom confirmation. But she is def. having a bad hair day !!!

Wow, Tami!! Very neat. I can't wait to see all those buds opened. The H. motoskei is way funky looking!!

Australis is lookin' good, Tami. What do you think of the smell? The variegated one, predictably, is slow. What's the deal with sp. sulawesi? I don't know anything about that one.

Prescott, AZ

Thanks Mark, the smell is just wonderful and I really love the flowers. Thanks for the tip on cutting them back. I'm going to cut up a couple more stems and get them rooting to stick back in the same pot this spring.

There are alot of sp. Sulawesi running around out there. I got the two I have from Carol, same species, it is fastly becomming a favorite. I can't believe how all the peduncles just boom formed on both the plants. It was new to me as I have never had any type of hoya do this, with the exception of nummalaroides. They are long and dainty. The leaves are really pretty too, turning a wonderful red in higher light.

Christina...how are you?????

Tami...I really like that sp. Sulawesi...it just blooms all of the time and i really like how the leaves get reddish and show off their venat ion!!!

Will get home soon and will post photos. DH tells me that H. pauciflora has sprung out lots of flowers, H. retusa is still blooming, H. sp. Kunming Kina is blooming.

Does anyone else find that as soon a the weather changes the blooms start on previously non blooming hoya?

Carol, I've noticed that a change in watering consistency can trigger a bloom in stubborn Hoyas- sometimes I'll skip every other watering for some of the stubborn ones. Also serves as a warning!

LOL at Mark.
My australis are COVERED with blooms just starting to open. I will get out there with the camera tomorrow. Also have some pubicalyx going bonkers again.
My nummularioides is also got some getting ready to open. Yeah. One of the sunrise is blooming, but the others have stopped.
Other than that...nada.
Great blooms everyone. Love looking at all the pics and making notes on what to get next spring.

Really pretty Roy, how do you treat your pach? I have read that this one is a true succulent but mine does much better when I give it more water. Great Birthday Present.

Brisbane, Australia

It's outdoors Tami, and in a good free draining mix. It's spring here now and warming up so I make sure it doesn't dry out too much. I give it a weak fish and kelp fertiliser every now and then. Do you know if anyone ever gets seed pods on this species? because being a slow growing succullent type it might be a long time before I can take cuttings.

LOL it is very slow isn't it. I haven't heard of anybody getting pods on there's, but I am sure it is possible. I bought one, a rather large one from a member of the forum. I cheated and bought it full of peduncles, as I love the flower but hate the wait. I was amazed at the size of the peduncles, almost looked like the size of tomatoe worm. Thanks for sharing your photo.

Tammy, What a FAB photo! I'll add this one to the list....................... -joanne

I have had this hoya for about 4 years, it was tagged with an IML # but that certain number belonged to H. australis. So then I thought it was H. motoskei, well it's not. Any clues? Smells like a carnosa. Sure doesn't have the leafs of any of the carnosa I have ever grown or now have. Any info would be appreciated.
