Not sure where to post this

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I saw the neatest plant at HD and would like to know if anyone here knows what it might be. It is really pretty. The photos were taken with my picture phone so they are not the best quality in the world but I hope someone knows what this might be. If I am in the wrong forum, please direct me to the right one. The first photo is of the whole plant.

My first thought is Mexican petunia, not sure. Mine don't flower well because they need full sun and I don't have it.

Hi Plantcrazii,
That is Princess Flower or Tibouchina urvilleana. It is a common shrub/plant here in central florida.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I was gonna say tall ruellia, but that was just guess. very pretty.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

I agree with heartwork. It's a tibouchina.

Yep, definitely Tibouchina. One of my favorites! You'll need to bring it in for the winter though if you buy it--I think it's only hardy to zone 9.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

I'm in zone 8b and mine has come back for a few years. I cut it down to the ground in spring and it will be over 5' before the fall.

So as long as I grow it in my greenhouse this winter it will be okay? I really did like it but wanted to make sure I could take care of it through the winter and then put it outside in the spring. Thanks for telling me this so now I can go buy one probably tomorrow.

Thanks,
Jesse

Thanks for helping me name my plant. Here is a new photo that I took tonight. I think the black background makes it really stand out.

These plants root real easy from cuttings. I bought 1 mother plant, took cuttings and I have 5 now.

Since they are the woody type, especially at the bottom, where do you take your cuttings from?

Jesse

I cut a stem with the flower on it . Trim the flower and leave 2-4 leaves which I cut in half. Clean the leaves off the next 2 sections. Dip it in dip n grow for hardwood. Hold the cutting in the solution to the count of 5 and insert into potting mix. Water. Say a pray. Wait about 2-3 weeks and you should see some new growth.
