What I'm bringing to the Green Elephant Plant Swap
Jim:
I have Japanese Anenome 'Honerine Jobert' for you if you still need some. If you still have any Cyperus alternifolius left, I'd like to get one.
I 'm also bringing the following which is free to anyone:
* I received 'replacement' tulips for some did not bloom true to name, but the grower sent me the wrong stuff anyway. I now have 5 bags of 25 of what looks like this: http://www.naturehills.com/Product_images/otherimages/Tulip_Triumph_EasterBasketMixed.jpg
* A Nandina domestica that stays about 3' tall.
* Rosa 'Legend' aka 'JACtop' - hybrid Tea http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/getImg.php?img=S3550.jpg
* Unknown mini rose from Molbaks clearance--it blooms medium red
For those who've never been to the Green Elephant, this brugs is what Jim forced upon me : - )--he potted it up, lifted it and carried it to my car. I got the first bloom in July, and it still has over 15 blooms on it today.
I've never been to a plant swap. Tell me about it! Do you have to have lots of plants to bring? Is there a swap system? I'm looking for a pieris (spelled right?), one of those showy leaved things. It can do shade, right? I have a pretty dry spot under a cypress that sucks all the water out of the soil. It gets some sun but not a lot. I'm looking for something evergreen that will be happy there.
Mes, the plant swap is a chance for those with abundant gardens to share with those who don't have quite as much. Some bring a truck load, some bring just a few, and some just bring cookies! :) There are a group on gardenweb that setup trades before hand especially if there is something specific you are looking for.
Jim is also setting up a seed table and providing supplies for wintersowing, so you could sow a flat full of pots to take home.
I can't advise what would be good in the area you speak of. My Pieris x japonica 'Mountain Fire' is about 8 ft tall and I could bring some cuttings for you. Not sure how it would like it under a cypress.

Hope the swap was fun! Would have attended, but had the last of an accounting class series yesterday.
sorry you missed it tiffany. There were about twice as many peopel as normal. We filled the parking lot. I think everyone went home with a couple dozen plants. Folks were able to wintersow a flat of seeds into pots that Jim provided that was new and very fun!
Very nice! Does this one happen again in springtime?
