I got a few little plants that were growing off the flower stalks on a friend's plant. They remind me of keiki's on orchids but this plant doesn't look like any orchid I've ever seen. I thought I'd try the tropical forum because the "mother" plant came from South America. The flowers only last for one day but it has flower stalks that keep blooming for several months. The plant is 2-3 feet tall.

Any ideas for an ID?
I know this one! I know this one!

I grow mine outdoors, in your area they would need winter protection. Since it looks like you're growing as in indoor plant, not an issue.
That's great.....thank you so much. My friend will be so happy to know what it is. Yes, it seems to make a great houseplant.
Walking Iris , you got it
These are great plants that have never failed me. Here's the fun part. They produce new plants on the end of the flowering stem which i see you already have , when it becomes to heavy it will bend the stem to the ground where it will set root where it touches and the process starts all over again, thus the walking name. As a house plant you could set a smaller pot beside it so the stem lands in it and you'll have new plants to grow or share.
Have fun, they come in blue too.
Plants sure have neat ways of reproducing themselves don't they. Blue sounds nice....my favourite colour. Not likely that I'll find them anywhere up here though. Nobody who has ever seen my friend's plant has known what it was.
I've got blue/white walking iris, would love to trade for a piece of the yellow one, i've been hunting th e yellow one, seems to be quite rare compared to the blue and white one.

You've got d-mail
Got your dmail celt, thanks
It will probably be o.k. in your area, but in Hawaii, it's a weed. It's hard to control. I've had to poisen them to keep them from taking over.
Voss is right. I have one in my yard and even here they are a bit agressive. It's a lovely weed.
nightowl, I've heard of it surviving here if it gets excellent drainage for winter. A loose mulch helps.
april, I keep reading that the yellows are aggresive but mine is growing much slower that the white/blue.
That's good to know growin. If I get to the point where I have enough to spare I might try some outdoors.
My white/blue is healthy but I wouldn't say it's growing fast. My yellow really took off about the 3rd year and I could see it being considered aggressive but to me it's easy enough to control. I love them.
