I have been growing this for years, and it's one of my favorites.
I love the fact that it has upright ears, stays short (~3'), and spends its energy getting bushy.
It's also a well-behaved house plant; almost no pest problems.
But I actually don't know much about it.
It is a naturally occuring plant or did someone breed it?
I have seen A. California that looks really similar to me. Are they the same or different?
Alocasia Gageana
OK, so I decided to do a search and now I am really confused.
According to a site: CentralFloridaFarms..
Alocasia California and A. Gageana might be the same. But they list the height as up to 6 feet! I thought they top out at 3"; mine certainly have never gotten higher (even in 5 years!)
Anyone know about this one or grow it?
ROX
Here, I found this.

They say
Alocasia gageana Engl. & K. Krause
Sometimes confused with Alocasia odora
Formerly A. california
A Small Elephant Ear
Celt-
Thanks for the info. It says they're from Malaysia!
PS Brian helped name mine too!
I got one of these from ROX.
It's a perfect size for Container Culture and a VERY vigorous spreader.
Having one I bought named A. california also, I find gageana a more rapid pupper and also about 1' shorter.
Maybe it's just this particular plant ROX latched on to but.................

Both plants look to be A. Gageana a easy to grow smaller growing alocasia they can grow small trunks and that maybe why it said they could get 6 feet tall. They look a lot like the true Odora but are much easier and much much smaller. Usually roundish leaves ruffled around the edges and always a dwarf.
