Frizzle Care

Antrim, NH

So now that I have my new fabulous chickie, I am wondering if anyone else has a frizzle or knows much about them. I'm not finding a lot online.

Thoughts??

i dont know anything about them but i just had to give you a reply

I have two frizzles (hens) and I take care of them just like the other breeds. I have not heard that they need any kind of special care, but if you hear that they do, I'd sure appreciate you passing the information along to me. Thanks!!

Make sure if you breed it DON'T breed to another frizzle
Frizzle has to be breed to a smooth feather
If you breed frizzle to frizzle you end up with Curlies which have stick feathers, you can see their skin and they will die in the winter unless you're in tropical zones

I understood that they are less "water-resistent" b/c their feathers don't shed the water like normal feathers do.

That makes sense. SIlkies are the same way. my silkie hen looks like a drowned rat every time it rains. But the darned thing won't stay out of the rain!

Wow I did not know not to breed Frizzles to other frizzles. I just bought 3 more in hopes of getting some hens to breed. Now I have to go home and tell my HD I made a mistake!!!

So crestedchik, the frizzle gene is dominant?

So what would happen if I bread them with my silkies or what breed should I breed them with?

Breed Frizzle feathered hen to Smooth feathered roo...ya will get % of each...or some people breed Smooth feathered hen to Frizzle feathered roo....just not frizzle to frizzle...poor things...Ya can breed silkies to fizzles...Ya can breed her to a fizzle roo...

If you breed a silkie to a frizzled cochin, you get a "sizzle"

I have a couple silkie/frizzle crosses that are absolutely beautiful-and they're broody queens!! Tough mommies, who'll tear up anyone getting too close to their young!!!

Does anyone know if a cochin frizzle lays white eggs? I've got a white egg mystery on my hands...
