Severely Water Restricted Brugs

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Most of my brugs have lost nearly all their leaves due to the severe drought and water restrictions we have been under here in San Antonio. Poor things want to bloom anyway. Here are the ones that are finally blooming.

This one was supposed to be pink, but I think it might be Dr. Seuss.

Tough babies! Love your garden!

Really, not to shabby at all, the blooms are still pretty. The "yellow" might still turn pink. I've found with lack of water or when temps get around 50 at night, it takes longer for the true color to show...... sometimes they are lighter color.... Guess they sensed they might not make it and are attempting to reproduce .... I tried forcing one to bloom by holding out on water or as much water, but I don't like to stress them too much,,, (spoiled brug babies!). Brugs really have a will to live.

Love your Rosamond! Even with the water restrictions, your blooms are looking good.

I must say they sure look good for water restrictions. Rosamond is fabulous!
Gosh.. and to think I water mine most everyday during the summer. Sometimes twice a day!

I am interested in how you managed to keep them all watered and going on water restrictions. We need to know your secrets or at least your tips??!?

The ones in pots I watered with bottled water, but it was not enough to keep them looking good. Only an unknown pink is blooming in a pot. The ones in the ground didn't get watered at all for 2 weeks. That is why so many of them lost nearly all their leaves. As soon as we were allowed to start watering again a little over a week ago from 12 midnight until 10 a.m. on our designated day, they started blooming. It really seems strange to me as well, as they are blooming as well or better than when watered nearly every day. The plants themselves don't look nearly as good as they usually do, but maybe having less foliage helps them bloom. It's a mystery. LOL

I only have three in pots and this summer was a tough one to keep plants watered. I mulched the soil but they lost lots of leaves. Mine had a flush of blooms this fall. I wonder if the shorter days affect this bloom frenzy...

Wow... Your Rosamond is awesome! I am thrilled and my Rosamond only has 2 buds! LOL It's her first bloom from a tiny cutting last winter. One bud is over 7" long and it hasn't even started to open at all. It seems now that it's cool out, everything is spitting out buds, but nothing like YOURS! That is amazing. Congratulations..
