Oh I am so excited! I just got back from the Deerfield Fair, here in NH. I've got a FABULOUS new chicken!
SHe's a cochin FRIZZLE! How cool is that??
See, I got her because my silkie was so mean to the new chickens I got this spring that no one will roost with her. She roosts low ( becuase she flies really poorly, being a silkie and all) and everyone else has fled to a high roost. So I am worried about her being warm enough over the winter.
SO my new plan is to get some other flightless chickens to snuggle with her this winter. Plus, who doesn't love silkies? So I went to the fair. There were lots of birds, some for sale, no silkie hens or pullets for sale. So then I saw this frizzle. Isn't she fantastic? I'm totally psyched about her.
The next step is introducing her into the flock. I'm getting some silkies next weekend ( I hope) so I'm keeping her separate until they get here, so I can introduce everyone at once, and spread around the pecking evenly :) But I thought I would start by having her hang out with her new roostmate, Artemis. So far so good. Usually Artemis pecks everyone, but so far they have been just chilling out together. Here she is:
Look at my new chickie! She's a superstar!
Cool looking lady hen or pullet!!
Does anyone know anything abour extra care for frizzles? Do they need to be kept extra warm?
I believe they need to stay dry. Pretty bird.
She's beautiful.
Have you named her,yet?
Not yet for sure. We want to name her something over the top and silly. We got her at the Deerfield fair, which was my grandfather's favorite when he was alive. His name was Maurice. We were thinking something totally rediculous like Yuliana Mauritzia. Any suggestions>?
What about Phyllis Diller? :)
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!; Phyllis Diller--- PERFECT
I thought on the first picture of her, you should
take a beauty shot of her, and put on a
pearl necklace. She would look oh so chic'-en.
