I am Patti from northern Kentucky, ready to join this plant-loving group! For many years I have tried and tried to have a green thumb, but failed miserably. Finally....for whatever reason, I've been doing pretty well. My main interest in plants are indoor ones, especially philodendron. I have so many that when the cold weather arrives, my home becomes "Fern Gully" (my youngest came up with that one), and the overflow goes to work with me. Not too many people understand this hobby, but I compare it to having pets....unless you are an animal lover, you can't understand the feelings that go along with them. I have two very lucky, spoiled rotten Irish Setters (one is a rescue) that make me smile just by looking at them, pretty much like my plants do. My plants make me feel so peaceful, very serene. And unlike my kids, they don't talk back! Unfortunately, my male Setter DOES talk back!
That first paragraph makes me sound like a nut! Really I'm not...I'm married (32 years), I have two grown sons (well, one is, the other one still sits on my lap and calls me mommy when he wants something) My oldest son is a single dad, doing a great job with my 7 year old granddaughter. (she would remind me that she is aaaaaalmost 8 in a few weeks) Isn't it funny how at that age we can't wait to be older, and when we're older it becomes.....no, I WON'T be 50 for a few more weeks! Those "few" weeks are precious both ways. Anyway...as you can tell, I do talk a lot (talking or typing-doesn't matter), I am excited to join Dave's Garden, I look forward to making new friends, learning a lot, and sharing what little bit I may know. If anyone out there is interested in Philo's, please give me some helpful hints....where to get good ones, how to best care for them, etc. I look forward to hearing from you! Take care, Patti
Hello from Kentucky!
A very big WELCOME to you Patti! You've found the right place to call home. So many friendly and caring folks here at DG. There are no questions too big nor too small. There are so many resources, supportive information, and areas to explore in and out of gardening! So dig in and enjoy! ;0)
hello and welcome from upstate new york. you will just love this place and 50 is just a number. doesn't mean anything if you are enjoying yourself and you will enjoy yourself here.
Patti ~ Helloooo! & Welcome to the best site around. :-)) I'm fairly new myself & have found it very hard to stay away. You'll love the folks, the humor, the helpful info, & the gorgious pictures.
And, yea....50 is just a number! (my #)
From a neighbor "across the way" ~ Enjoy!!
Waving from the west side of the Bluegrass! Glad to see another Kentuckian here. There are several of us you'll bump into around the Garden.
50 is just a number...mine will come up in Feb.
I'm a veggie grower, but do have a couple of tired looking houseplants. There's lots of great folks here and several of us have been around for ages....I remember when there was about 350 members....
Welcome....and check out the Roundup Forum...we just had a nice get together over on Lake Barkley...it's an annual event, so we'd love to see you next year.
Patti! Hi from the other side of the river! So happy you're here!
Be sure to check in on the Ohio River Valley Forum http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/region_orv/all/
Thanks to everybody for such a warm welcome! I'm excited to have found such a nice place....and thank you all for the kind words about that 50-something situation. It's not that bad really, what choice is there? Unlike my computer, I don't have a "restore" button to take me back to a previous point in time....so I'll just smile and blow out one more candle next year. (big smile)
I am really interested in collecting Philodendron plants. If anyone out there knows of a source besides ebay, I would so appreciate it. I have found one grower and have bought some that I am very happy with, but I know there has to be more sources out there somewhere. I love the variegated ones especially. I know they're harder to find, and more costly, but I get bored easily....the anticipation of seeing what that curled up little shoot will look like when it's opened keeps my interest peaked. Any information would tickle me pink!
Thanks again for making me feel so welcomed. Patti
Welcome Patti:

You will have to read the thread I began in Garden Talk titled: DG Anonomous! There are lots of us Plantaholics out there! This is such a fun place .... really nice "plant people" with lots of knowledge! I've had a few of my plants ID'd for me already!
I have a philo that I just got recently .... it's called Philodendron Brazil .... very pretty. I love the variegated leaves on this one:
Have a great time on the site and Happy Gardening to you!
Lin
Lin,
I got Brazil recently also...and it is beautiful! And yes, this site IS addicting....but it beats playing POGO all of the time. Besides, this site is a learning experience also, and I am enjoying it so much.
Patti
