Well who says lightning doesn't stike twice. A few weeks back Florence paid us a visit with 100 km winds in St. John's....160 on our south coast where a house was destroyed. Looks like Issac will follw suit, only this time it will be a more direct hit than Florence. I can't imagine I'll be spared twice. Thankfully, most flowers are gone now, but our trees are still full of leaves so the damage could be significant.
Hurricane number 2...in rolls Issac
Rats...he kinda snuck up on us, didn't he?
Take care.
Don
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you Todd. Stay safe. --Ginny
Oh, no. Also keeping my fingers crossed.
Ann
Hold onto your hat Todd.
Remember plants and property can be replaced, people can't.
Good luck to you, your family and everybody.

Will be watching the forecasts and crossing fingers for you Todd!
Maybe by Tuesday it will be nothing but a strong breeze. Well, that's what we'll hope for anyway.

Well its 12:42 local time...there is a very heavy drizzle at the moment but the winds are only gusting to 45 kph (25 mph)....there is actually a low pressure system from eastern North America joining with the hurricane...perhaps some of you might recall 'The Perfect Storm' movie? Well, this is suppose to be a similar situation. So the rain now is actually from the low pressure, not the hurricane. Issac is suppose to hit later this evening with winds gusting to 110 km and 60 mm of rain. The winds are suppose to go from E to S then to NW. Around midnight the eye is forecast to pass over St. John's or pretty near to us. The change from E to S will coincide with this.
It will be a trying next 24 hours!
we'll be watching and praying.
Well your prayers must have been answered! Suddenly the hurricane watch is over! Now our winds are suppose to gust to 60 km only... a walk in the park by Newfoundland standards! Apparently, the cold waters off Newfoundland along with a currently strong jet stream were too much and Issac quickly fizzled. Even our 60 mm of forecast rain is down to 10-20mm. So Issac became a non-event. Thnak goodness. I should be able to get a few more weeks out of the garden.
Yes!! the power of all that of positive thinking
Ü What wonderful news Todd! Ü
Fantastic!
Yayyy!!! :-)
(lurking back off to the weather forum...)
Great to hear, Todd!
wonderful news Todd, now get off the computer and back out in the garden while you still can!
Linda, well, you can wait until morning now... :)
Great news. And one has to go to DG to hear it. I didn't hear anything much on the CBC.
Well if it doesn't happen in Toronto or Ottawa, CBC won't mention it (but I'm not bitter!)
