Another one to name

This kind of crawls on the ground and the foliage reminds me of sensitive briar. I have not seen the flowers, but it has multiple seeds that grow in flat been like pods and the pods grow together in a circular bunch. Here is the foliage.

I think I answered my own question. I remembered that I had not checked the UT class webpage that I like for natives. It looks like it is illinois bundleflower. http://www.sbs.utexas.edu/bio406d/images/pics/fab/desmanthus_illinoiensis.htm

I had several of these in the spring, but can only find two now. They aren't very tall either so anyone want to confirm? Josephine?

If I am correct. Does anyone want seeds brought to the roundup?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes Stacey, it is Illinois bundleflower, a very pretty and lacey looking perennial native.

Is this the "weed" that when you touch it's frons actually curls up?! Oh that plant is so cute but I recently spied some in my yard and found the root system very tough to extract.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

It is most likely that one, they are touch sensitive. But it could be a similar one there are many plants in that family. And yes they all have very deep roots.

Frostweed:

Thanks!!!! Are you a weed expert cause I have several in my yard and I swear I am out plucking them on a weekly basis so at least I enjoy fewer of them than neighbors but have not found a real great weed killer that doesn't hurt some type of grass and since I have a mix of grasses there aren't many I can use.

I'll have to take pics of some of my weed plants and start a thread pretty soon.

Well, actually I'm a native plant lover, and it so happens that many of them are called weeds by some people.
I will be glad to do what i can to help you identify your unwanted plants, and who knows? you might have some special plants there, that you might decide to kepp after all, we shall see.

If it has little baby thorns on it that catch your skin clothing, etc, then it is Sensitive Briar. There are several cultivars. http://davesgarden.com/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=sensitive&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=Mimosaceae&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=Mimosa&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

This one (the bundleflower) did not seem to close up for me when I touched it, but even Sensitive Briar sometimes does not close up.

Sweezel,

Nope I cleaned out any thorny weeds and haven't seen a recurrence of them yet.

I have one that has like red stems, very fragile, when you go to pluck it out (clover like leaves) it leaks white milky stuff. This one is prevalent! I also have wild carrots all over. And of course the impossible to rid Johnson grass.....

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

FYI..mine get to 4 ft tall
