My first seedling bloom.....

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

I think she should be named Sassy, after my beloved English Bulldog, Sassy T, who passed away in April taking with her a piece of my heart.

Excuse the pile of garden trash in the background I got so excited I didn't notice it.

Judy,

That is gorgeous! My condolences on the loss of your dear friend.

Judy,
Great blooms on this beautiful pink one. How long does it take to go from seed to this many blooms? I have several that are on the way but have a long time to go yet! I'm anxious for lots of growth.

I planted this seed April 2005. Had I planted it inside in Jan 2005 I just might have had a flower before frost 2005, but it would have been unlikely. From what I have read in my zone it would probably take until the second summer to get blooms. I believe some people are able to get blooms the first summer.

Very pretty Judy, I like the shape of the flower. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your pet , I know how painful that is. I just got a new pup after 8 yrs. without one, and boy is he making a mess of my flower beds, but he is really good company when I am outside.

Judy,
Those blooms are well worth the wait - just beautiful!! I'm so sorry you lost your pet. I lost my little cat Madison a little over a month ago, and still tend to look around for her.

Thank you all for such kind postings about Sassy.

That is gorgeous, Judy. I just love that "happy" pink. :)
I'm sorry about Sassy, and can completely understand. My Bo (Chow) passed away 3 years ago, and I still miss him.
So, Sassy would be an excellent name for your new seedling!

Judy,
I know how your heart feels because my cocker/spitz, Ginger, passed away on Christmas day 1999, or during the night, because when I went in the basement to feed her, she was gone already. We got her as a pup and had her for about 18 years. I still haven't chosen another dog.

Naming the new brug 'Sassy' would make it always extra special to you.

Judy that is one of the nicer pinks I have seen. But, I am curious, how come you don't have spider mites on all of those leaves? They look so healthy!!!

Jeanette

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

The only damage to those leaves were caused by acorns and twigs falling from the oak tree, plus high winds. She was between two brugs who had both spider and broad mite infestations, but they didn't like her. She was sprayed each time as a precaution so that might have prevented it. One Dr Suess didn't have any, but a small one planted in a raised bed really got them bad. I have 4 CGs but only one got mites and it was just one branch so it was removed prior to spraying.

Judy!!! She's wonderful.. Sassy is a perfect name for her. I'd planted a seed in Jan.04, grew it out in the summer, took the 5 ft plant to my work (more light) that fall and babied all winter. Took it home spring of 05 and and when it bloomed that August I felt so proud of myself. Like I'd given birth after a long labor! lol This year, she's become somewhat of a monster and is covered in buds, been blooming all month. Soon I will have to whack on her to fit in the basement..

YardBird,

To get to the tag I had to get down on my hands and knees amoung the bees who were trying to get to the pollen on the flowering ground cover. She's from a Datdog "Rosemond x ?" seed.

Thank you Datdog for being so generous with seeds to everyone here at DG.

I suppose I should make it perfectly clear that I do not intend upon officially naming this brug, she looks far too much like many of Rosemond's offspring, Sassy is only my name for her. Matter of fact she looks like a twin to some of Rosemond's pictures on the PlantFile http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/3059/index.html

What do you spray with Judy?

Jeanette

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Because I also had both spider and broad mites my research showed only Forbid & Talstar One were listed as effective against broad mites. Due to the high price of Forbid, we chose to use Talstar One, plus Bayer Advanced 2-in1 Systemic Rose and Flower Care.

Many threads here on the DG forum cautioned using too much of the Bayer would burn up the Brugs so at first I went lean on the amount which proved to be a mistake. The next treatment I used the recommended dose for a rose bush in each pot and for each brug in the ground. At that point I was slashing and burning the worse of them so why not!! This treatment was much more effective.

We ended up spraying with Talstar One every 5 days and using the Bayer every 2 weeks on all the brugs, not just the ones that had mites. For more details go here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/643963/

Very pretty Judy and I am also amazed at the healthy color of the leaves and their condition. As pretty as it is, I agree with you regarding officially naming it and registering it.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

There are so many out there that look THE SAME that it really is confusing. And of course since the pollen donor is unknown it's kinda like it being a mixed breed therefore just should not have registration papers. lol lol

Beautiful pink Judy. Most of mine that have bloomed this summer are showing up pink except one white and one as small amount of peach..But I just love the pink they have such a wonderful smell to them..

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Judy, I have some seeds that Datdog, Kristi, sent me last year of Rosamond x Halo Peach. Could that be what it is? I hadn't gotten mine planted but they are now. Just today. Jeanette

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

No this is one was an unknown pollen donor "x?"

Judy
I must say you have a beauty that you have grown
