Epi Seeds

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 9b)

Help, need to know how to grow epi seeds! I have a bunch that have little green roots from soaking them in peroxide and water. Now what do I do? Thanks! Krispi

I've never tried to start them from seed, myself, but here's a link that might be useful.

MaryEv, bless your heart, I found out exactly what I need to know! I printed the info out, and now I am going to try my luck at growing from seed. Thanks, Krispi

Well, good luck! The site makes them look like a challenge. I hope yours do well! Please post pictures or let us know how it goes!

Do they really flower 2 1/2 years from seed as Thompson & Morgan claim? I started a pack of their seeds in January 2001 and am still anxiously waiting for my first blooms.

hmmm, I've read 5 years from seed, but I can't find where I read that.

Thanks, MaryEv. I raised 24 plants from the seed packet, and some are huge in 8 inch pots while others are still in 3 inch pots. I hope for at least a couple flowers from the larger ones next year .

My little babies are growing in the dirt, got them in a Ziploc bag. I had to take them out today, cause some were getting mildew on them, decided to let them stay out tonight, will reseal them in the morning. Hetty, you are going to be in shock, I think! Thanks again, everybody, for your help! Love ya! Sylvia

Sofi and Krispi (Sylvia) I would love to see pictures of what you've done from seed!!!

I will be sending you all some pictures, as soon as my DH returns from his Bow hunting trip, since he has the camera, and knows how to send them on the computer. I am just stunned, I just checked them, and they are just little green sprouts, about 1/8 to 1/4" tall! This was all a surprise when they sprouted. WOW! Thanks, Sylvia

Here are a few pictures of my seed grown epis. I hope they are OK - my camera is begging to be replaced.

Smallest one with tons of immature growth:

Here is a mid sized seedling:

And the largest one:

Those are really neat, Sofi, these will be curley leaf epis, there just happened to be a seed pod on the leaf that I got in the mail, and when it ripened, I put the seeds in the peroxide/water soak, and they just sprouted! I can hardly wait to plant them in dirt, instead of vermulicate. Thanks, Sylvia

Sylvia, I wish I had taken pictures of my seedlings when they were very small. It was fun to watch them develop from furry little nubs into leaves with different shapes and textures. Hope yours will be more anxious to flower than mine have been. In the meantime I come to this forum every day to see pictures of other members' gorgeous blooms.

Yeah, I know what you mean, these blooms are so beautiful! I forgot to check my babies today, hope they are still green! See you later, Sylvia
