This year I adopted a few seeds of bruggie,
and sowed them carefully in my yarden.
Spring breezes and summer showers
have brought forth their big blooms.
The color something like the millet or yolk
does give me a thrill.
bruggie, lovely
Sounds like you are hooked! Had you ever seen brugs in China before? I bet people are shocked at such a big flower. If you have 2 different kinds from 2 different seeds, you can cross them and get more seeds to share!
Congratulations !! Every first booms is so exciting .It looks like you have a very healthy plant there.
You sound like my wife.
She says,
You go over to meet the brug bloom
Over and over again for what?
Seems your soul is hooked by it.
I reply,
True, the brug is my some soul mate.
As I know, maybe I am the first
To introduce it to China.
I will let it bloom and grow forever.
Isn't it a bliss?
Latest report: the yellow is turning into white.

Congratulations on becoming a Bruggie addict like the rest of us,LOL
I hope you can add many more to your collection.
My husband says the same thing,
he never takes the time to look and smell.
They are angel trumpets- eternally beautiful
He should not miss. Tell him to take time and smell -
the scented aroma smells like that of jasmine or gardenia.
In 23 days my region will meet the first frost. I am thinking
how to help them overwinter. I am a novice in cultivating brugs.
Any suggestive tips from you would be appreciated.
Here is a thread the speaks of wintering cuttings.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/407953/
You can search the brug forum using "over wintering" in the search field, and it will give you many threads to read. This would also work if you use a search engine like Google. Joelle
Take cuttings or bring it indoors for the winter.
Cuttings 6-8 inches long ( 15- 20 centimeters)
in a glass of 55 F degree water ( 13 celcius) in a bright window-
change water about once a week , add more as it evaporates.
Next year you can sell the extras or plant all of them- have a forest of brugmansias :)
Since I do not know China's measuring systems I included the only two I know .
Good, good!
Since there is still some time for the overwinter of my bruggies
I will compare notes and make my final resolution.
Besides your experience, I come across another one.
My local farmers often store their sugar canes and sweet potatoes
in the out-door cellars to help them overwinter safely.
They say the underground temperature is constantly warm.
Hopefully, next year I will see my bruggies survive and thrive.
Thanks for your practical suggestions.
Jianhua
PS. For the measurement of length, we both use international Unit
(kilometer, meter,centimeter) and Chinese Unit (zhang = 3meters, ci, cun);
for the measurement of temperature, we adapt International unit Celcius (100 degrees).
