I like to order from Pinetree Garden Seeds They are in Maine. Most of their seed packets are under $1 and I have had good experiences with ordering from them. They carry also herbs for Italian,Asian, and Middle East cooking. There is also herbs for dying, though I don't do any dying of yarn or fabric. The web site is http://www.superseeds.com/
They also carry a large selection of gardening books ,with many about herbs.

For a really extensive selection of Herbs, plants & seeds. Try Companion Plants in Ohio.
[HYPERLINK@www.companionplants.com] I've used them for some of the hard to find varieties over the years.

Good to know, will have to check out companion plants. I'll second the recommendation for Pinetree... We get veggie seeds from them too. They're good for home gardeners, because they will sell smaller packets of seed for correspondingly smaller prices. I am pretty sure my 'Minette' basil seed came from them, and it's my favorite of the compact, small-leafed varieties that I've tried. They also carry a purple pole bean (Triompho Violetto, something like that) that you must try -- it's as tasty as it is ornamental!

Of course, there's a lot to be said for swapping for herb seeds also. :-) I hope to have a good assortment of basil varieties to offer down the road (when harvesting, drying, dechaffing, etc is completed)... Unfortunately, my english-type creeping thyme (the only one I have that sets seeds, which I grew from seeds marked simply "Creeping Thyme") seemed to have dropped its seeds before I managed to harvest them, but maybe it will have some late seeds yet this month.
