Remodeling my GH

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

I have some 8ft+ brugs that I am going to try and overwinter and needed more headroom. So I am in the process of remodeling. It will be heated with a 55gal black plastic drum filled with water, as well as a large space heater with a built in fan. I hope it works. John

I like your foundation, looks like your going to have plenty of headroom and with that pitch should shed any snow accumulation.

Great start, we just remodeled ours and finally have it all done and I have starting getting some of my plants in and using the windows instead of the plastic sure has worked so much better..
Good luck..

Now that is cattle panel to the extreme! What a great idea! Are the blocks cemented or dry stacked?

I finally finished covering and put my black 55gal drum full of water in, I also bought my air stones for my bubbler. Its supposed to get to 35deg tonight. This is the back of GH, both windows open for ventilation. I sure hope it works better than last year. John

Looks great. On a cold, clear, winter day you find want to put a hammock in there and catch some rays... but there will be so much greenery in the way you won't be able to! Enjoy!

Hi John,

I noticed you ran the film to the ground over the cinderblocks. Was this to keep water out? I rolled mine up and in spite of caulking I'm getting some water leaking in. How did you seal the end panels. It all looks so nice and neat.
Also how do you deal with condensation? My GH looks a lot like yours (but not as nice!). Next year I plan on re-doing it starting early summer since I won't be using it during the summer months.

Thanks!

MollyD, I had planned on putting a roll up system on the side, but have since changed my mind. So I will be cutting the plastic up to the bottom of frame. On the ends I cut strips of 1/2 in plywood which bows to the form of the panels. I attached the strips to the inside edges of each end, I folded the ends of film stapled in place, then stapled another 1/2in strip on the outside, using 1in staples. I have the advantage of having a full line of air powered nail guns and staplers. So far I dont have any leaks. John

The greenhouse looks very nice. Are the grids that you used the ones used for concrete reinforcement? I have several mounted on my fences, spaced away from the fence with brackets. I use them for morning glories, hyacinth beans, moon flowers, etc. I bought them at Home Depot for less than three dollars each. Not too bad for an almost four by eight grid.
I have a good friend that lives in Kellyville. His home is on a hill between 66 and the turnpike. I think that he told me that he has twenty five acres. Nice location.

John, the GH is made from cattle panels. Which are 1/4in welded wire in 4ft x 16ft panels. easy to work with. John

Thanks John. When you trimmed the sides (they look great btw!) did you roll them under the plywood you stapled them to? No air guns or power staplers here I'm afraid. Don't even want to mention them or my Paul will be off and running to buy one :-)

Thanks!
MollyD
