Green Elephant Plant Swap Sat., Nov 4, 10AM - Noon, Redmond
Glad to see you on here Jim. I will be there, but really shouldn't bring anymore plants home! I'm still planting the ones I got from this weekend's swap. Though, if you think of it, I'd love that sum and substance you mentioned.
I'll bring all the seeds from the swap table I setup as well as the little envelopes and funnels. They only thing I would improve is to try and have pics and info about the different seeds available. I ran out of time to do this for my swap. Or at least maybe a book for people to look the seeds up in.
Nice to 'see' you on here, Jim! I might make it to that plant swap, but I brought so many plants home from the past one that I'm still reeling. If I come I will have more plants to offer than I did this time, now that I know the ropes, so to speak.
BTW, that Joe Pye weed I took off your hands at that last swap - do you know the species?
I am looking for a mature seedhead of Gunnera manicata. You know that ugly flower spike it sets up in summer? If someone has one growing in their yard, just cut off the flower stalk at the base and bring the whole thing to the Green elephant. It doesn't matter if it's had a little frost.
Regards, Jim
Jim, Bonsai Northwest in Tukwila has an absolutely huge gunnera plant that has at least two large seedheads this year. The leaves are easily 7 feet across. I was there last month asking for a leaf off of their plant and they gave me one willingly. Their plant is starting to go dormant and they would likely be glad for you to have a seedhead. If you want to give them a call and ask if you can have one, Mike could pick it up for you. He works up in that area. Here is a link to their website:

RE: Gunnera.
I'd love it if someone brought one to the Green Elephant for me.
Regards, Jim
Dear Pixydish,
By all means if you can acquire the gunnera seedhead, bring it to the Green Elephant.
Regards,
Jim
*giggle* I thought Pixy meant if Fire called and got permission, her husband would pick it up.
