Brug cuttings - calloused ?

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

Do Brug cuttings need to be calloused ? I have just been cutting , removing most of leaves and sticking in dirt or removing all the leaves and putting in water .
They shrivel so fast after cutting - this has probably been covered a 100 times - what can I say ?

Brugs are tough tony, you can abuse the beejeebers out of them and they happily come right back. With older brown wood cuttings I will usually let them sit out for a few hours then stick them in potting mix. I keep the potting mix damp but not wet. For greenwood I immediately stick them in my bubbler and if I can't get them to water within a half hour, I'll cut off a half inch then put them in water.

Wilting is normal but not to worry, they come back very fast.

Thanks , If I see one I like , I will ask for a cutting . I have 3 frosted pink in water right now . When I put most in potting mix they rot from inside out The outer bark stays and after a while the stick falls over .
I had a real hard time before I found this site last year . [ I just paid for another year , so I know it's been a year . ] The only ones I had seen were frosted pink , single and double white and yellow . I have 2 - 8 to 10 foot yellows - the single and double white both died [ I got another double white standard this year and is in ground with a flush just finishing ] ant my frosted pink is about 6 foot tall and in 2nd flush this year .
I probably have another 25 -10 or 12 different ones in pots [ 2 or 3 of same ] . 2 butterflies and 2 rosemonts have started flushes in 5 gallon pots .
I hope to pick up a couple more at a round-up on the 7th of Nov . I will be taking my extras to give away .

Tony, sounds like you are off to a flying start. Have you tried bubbling them? Also, maybe once they get nubbies you should pot them up. I think that gets the roots out into the soil better than if you wait until the roots are long.

Just my opinion. jmo

Another thing I have had luck with is Root Booster. Got mine from Charleys.

1 - I have is called roots , a liquid with anti something in it . I ordered from canada . The other is a powder from merligers - I think they stopped there internet store but I still have rooting powder left .
I do like you said - when nubbies swell up I either dust or just stick in pot .

And then they shrivel up? Or rot? Do you get any leaves? Jeanette

They [ some ] rotted from inside . No leaves

I know what you mean, I had some do that too. I honestly don't know what causes that. I think just being too wet probably.
