Unknown Hoya?

New Caney, TX

I'm not sure if this is a hoya or not. It was marked Hoya Carnosa. I'm pretty sure its not a Carnosa :-) but wonder if anyone knows what it might be even if its not a hoya.

I don't believe that is Carnosa. It looks more like Lacunosa!!!

It does look like a lacunosa- one thats been grown indoors rather than in a greenhouse. Mine get larger, thinner, non-lacunose leaves like that in my house.

tamixwp, this sure doesn't look like any carnosa i've ever seen but I do think it is most definately a hoya. It looks very familiar to me but can you turn your camera lengthwise and get a full size photo of the entire plant? and another with some of the leaves in a close up.

Tami, I bought one of those at Home Depot last weekend. It is labeled carnosa "Green Leaf". It looks exactly like lacunosa so that is what I am labeling it.

Same here. I got mine last year at Home Depot and it was labeled Hoya carnosa 'green leaf' and is an Exotic Angel plant. It has bloomed and is identical to H. lacunosa in leaf form and bloom.

TamiXWP..I'm afraid I'm going to be the maverick once again, stick my neck out and say, I don't think it is a lacunosa. I think it just may be H. pusilla, but without seeing the entire plant and the way it grows, it's almost impossible to say for sure. One way that you can tell a lacunosa from the pusilla is that lacunosa has very short pedicles (flower stems) on the outer edge and longer ones in the middle. This makes the umbel of flowers appear to be rounded. H. pusilla on the other hand have the short flower stems in the center of the umbel and the outer ones are a bit longer. This makes the flower umbel appear almost flat across the top. They are both in the Otostemma section and both smell pretty much the same. I love them both, so whatever it turns out to be..you have a real treasure.

P.S. I'm not the final word on anything!

It also could possibly be that hybrid between H. lacunosa X H. obscura...EA sells it under all kinds of names...and under different growing conditions it can look very different. I think only flowers will tell on this one... Whatever it is, it is LOVELY!!!

I didn't know that EA has the hybrid, H. sunrise. I am going to have to start looking for it. All I have seen are the H. lacunosa around here. I agree, that is a nice plant and will be curious to see the blooms.

Hey all, I'll try to get another picyure of it tomorrow. I think its lacunosa because I got some in a trade today and it is the same. I found an interesting link today. It lists Lucunosa as a Carnosa. And that is what this tag said. http://www.danpot.dk/lev/slart_sort.txt Any thought on that. Is it a type of Carnosa?

Negatory! Anyone who thinks H. lacunosa is a H. carnosa would buy a horse thinking it were a goldfish! There are many forms of H. lacunosa...and probably many crosses of it as it does bloom often to be pollinated by just about anything...mostly self. When I left my H. cv. Sunrise had two seed pods...DH is supposed to care for them...?
