If anyone on this board has a leaf or two of Garnet Elf to spare, I would gladly pay you postage for them!
This was one of my mother's favorite violets and I have been looking for it for over one year, probably more like two! I wrote to AVSA and they gave me the names of two people that were supposedly growing it, but I never received an answer from either of them.
My mother is going to be 100 next month and I had hoped to present her with a plant of Garnet Elf. I know she is going to make it to 101 so maybe I can give her a plant of it then.
Here is a description - Garnet Elf - Eyerdom - #2339 - 1972 - single dark rose-lavenderwide white frilled edge. Ruffled foliage. Standard.

Garnet Elf
Hi Nancy,
I hope you can find 'Garnet Elf'. I just checked Ebay and did an advanced search even for completed auctions for anyone that may have this one. Nothing turned up. I will keep you in mind if I ever do see it anywhere. Good luck!
I did a search to. D&P use to sell it but they went out of Business. Good Luck !
Nancy,
You might want to try the local AV societies. Here's a handy page with their contact info:
http://www.hort.wisc.edu/mastergardener/clubs.htm
There are three in your state and I can't imagine them not wanting to help out. Our local gesneriad and AV clubs will be at the big plant fest at USF Botanical Gardens next month and I'll be sure to ask around. They usually have hundreds of leaves. And now that I got my mother "Pow Wow" I can search for something else! We were at a show and there was only one "Pow Wow" and another lady was buying it. I was sure Mom was going to rip off a leaf and make a run for it. She didn't, but I got her one of her very own now. Next mission - "Garnet Elf"!
I am a member of one of the local Madison clubs and the state group. Someone bought my show plant of Garnet Elf a couple of years and gave it to a non-AV grower. It died! :( Of course, I thought I had leaves down. My inventory system is good, but unfortunately, not perfect. I was the only one in the state growing Garnet Elf at that time.
So please keep looking everyone. It's out there somewhere! I check e-Bay for it also, but have never seen it.
Nancy
I just googled and found it at http://www.african-violets.com/std.htm Hope this helps you out. The site is currently not shipping but maybe this could change in future.

Oh no! How awful. Everyone in my office grows AVs on their desk. I have three AVs and an episcia "Pink Dreams". My favorite AV is "Powder Keg". Boom! With a nationwide, (possibly international?) team of DGers, someone will find "Garnet Elf"!
Lynn -
D & P have gone out of business. I wish they would take their site off the internet.
Everyone keep looking for that Garnet Elf. It is needed for a very nice 100 yr old lady.
Nancy
Yes that sight is D&P the one I mENTIONED> Alice original owner got sick ( she might not even be alive :(() she sold it to someoe else he did not do well for him. I think about last Spring or so we all bought a lot of plants for $1.00 each from him. 99 percent of the ones I got were no good. He said he left hundreds behind that would freeze. He left and moved. He sells Streps on Ebay but no longer AV's. Alice son maintains her web sight was supose to take it down but never has. They will not ship again there are no plants or Business left. Sorry.
Hey Nancy B!
Still looking for Garnet Elf? There's one that's just been put up for auction on eBay. I've put a beginning bid on it so I'd appreciate it if no one else from this forum bid on it.
Nancy, why don't you d-mail me and we'll get together and discuss what to do. Thanks. :)
Marilee
As of very early Sunday morning there are actually two up for bid. Now everybody be nice and share! : )
Yeah, I found the other one too but someone had already bid on it. I bid on the second one for Nancy, not for me (although I wouldn't mind a leaf . . .).
I guess I should have said that my eBay name is calliopehummingbird.
Marilee :)
The best of luck in the auction, Mailee and Nancy. Beautiful AV!

Wish us luck on this one!! I would be very willing to share.
The plant is a "dropper" of flowers but it is beautiful. I have won many awards with it in the past. I would really like this one for my mother - actually a baby. The doctors say she has the heart of a 40 year old, so she should definitely make it to 101 unless she falls. Now if she wouldn't leave here walker behind in the diningroom at the assisted living center that wouldn't be a problem. They gave her a walker to slow her down!!
Nancy
Good Luck !
The price is already up to $17.06 on the first Garnet Elf and we have two days to go. I'm not sure how much I am willing to spend and I am up against Elmiecat!!! (:
Nancy B
NO ONE can outbid Elmiecat!!!! LOL!!!!
Well, if you can't win this one, you can always try for the second one. I've only seen Elmiecat outbid 2 or 3 times -- and the price for those items were outrageous, in my opinion.
Good luck.
Marilee
I may have to be "outrageous" to get this one! I just haven't figured out how outrageous I want to be yet. But then she just paid me 69.00 for one that I had for sale.
Nancy B
I just lost the first one on e-Bay. It went for $36.99! I am now bidding on the second one. It may not be meant to be!
Nancy B
Well, I certainly won't get in the way. Now all you have to worry about is elmiecat!
Good luck. :)
Marilee
Well, I got it and I am not going to tell how much I paid for it :)
The seller was so nice that he is actually going to send me a larger plant that is getting ready to bloom. My mother will love it. He is also sending me a young plant of Granger's Heart's Desire. I am going to take a couple of leaves off of my mother's Garnet Elf so there should be something to share with everyone next year.
Oh I am so happy for you! If it will make your precious Mother happy, then cost doesn't matter! ;o) Congratulations! I do hope you'll have time to snap a picture for us before you present it to her.
Yea!! And I definitely want to see pictures of your Mom and the plant too! Congartulations.
For you and for your Mom's extra special day, my heartfelt congratulations! So wonderful you still have her, Nancy, and that you can be together.
Wonderful ! God Bless your Mom and you together !
Oh, I'm so thrilled for you, Nancy. I was afraid you wouldn't win since there are clearly people out there for whom price is no object. Congratulations. :)
Marilee
