I think it is a peacock orchid... or peacock lily. My mom gave me some bulbs LATE this spring (maybe it was even summer) - they didn't bloom. I love them in the magazines, though.

Mike, I saw 2 pics in the PF... they don't really look like the same plant - the 2 pics. The bottom one looks like your bulb/plant. Maybe the top one is a mature specimen grown in it's natural habitat? Sorry, I just really like your bulb/plant and would like to find one IF I can provide it its needs.

AuntB

It gets sold by several names, I usually see it in bulb catalogs as Abyssinian Gladiolus or Peacock Orchid,

botanical usually is not in listing: Gladiolus callianthus

Its not a good repeat returner for me...must not like it so hot in the winter. =(

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8b)

I'll have to report back next year- I planted a lot at our last house and then we moved, I just planted a bunch here.

I think the bulb just has "issues" with me--seems to do great for everyone else, go figure! lol

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8b)

yeah, well I killed 2 bougainvillea, bulletproof in this part of the country........I always figured that the plant just had a bad attitude to start with

:)

Danielsville, GA(Zone 7b)

If its like the gladiolias in this zone(7),it will do well to dig after after it dies down, put in open container with dry peatmoss, and plant back in spring after last frost.Mike
