I this an herb? It grows out of the ground like a hosta. (I know it's not a hosta, just a growing description) It grows like crazy, I can pull it, dig it, it still comes back.
help ID please
I am not familiar with this particular plant but it sure looks like comfrey? Anyone else?
That's what everyone says,I just haven't seen any flowers. Maybe I'llhave to take it to the extension office. Thanks, Karen
My comfrey leaves are more pointed, and a fuzzier texture. Mullein? The first thing I thought of was some kind of greens, but would those keep coming up?
GARDEN_MERMAID! We need your input!
oops. sorry....I hadn't gotten to this thread yet.
It looks like a type of comfrey to me. Has it bloomed yet?
Here is a link to the Wikipedia entry for comfrey:

You may also want to do a search with google images on "comfrey".
It will keep coming back as long as there are roots there. But rejoice! Comfrey makes terrific compost and comfrey tea will make your garden grow better. So, next time you pull it out, remember that you are not "weeding", you are "harvesting" something good for your plants.
I have looked and looked and haven't found anything that is the same. The leaves are the same as the borage I have only on a much larger scale. There have been no flowers but I pulled it out in Spring.
I need to take it to DA's pro-time nurse. Patti has been studying medicinal herbs. Calendula Flower Salve is a favorite of ours, one she makes and has comfrey in it. I just need to get out to her place and take it with me.
Hey wait! Silly me!! Joe across the alley is the herb Dr.. Fills his own capsules, ect. I just forgot...I haven't seen much of him lately ...... I think I'll go put the leaves on his porch tomorrow with a note.
Thanks, Karen
Please keep us posted! Maybe one day computers will come with a small transporter chamber and we'll be able to beam plants back and forth! If I could see, touch, smell and taste that plant, I would be able to tell you if it is comfrey or not!
Hi,
From your pictures, it looks like comfrey (which is in the same family as borage) to me, but there are several other possibilites. Are there any signs of serration on the edge of the leaves? If so it could be a foxglove (more toxic than comfrey). Hounds tongue (also in the same family as comfrey and borage) is another possibility, but the leaves of hounds toungue are usually narrower than they appear in your pictures. You will most likely see flowers next spring, which should help with a more posative identification.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help...K~
